maan there is no core2duo procy above 3 ghz .....look at this this is frm intel'site:

E6700 4 MB L2 2.66 GHz 1066 MHz
E6600 4 MB L2 2.40 GHz 1066 MHz
E6400 2 MB L2 2.13 GHz 1066 MHz
E6300 2 MB L2 1.86 GHz 1066 MHz

and please dont think about clock speeds here.an amd athlon64 3000+ coupled with even a 7300gs(one of my friend has) that runs 1.8ghz on stock speeds can on anyday beat p4 @2.8ghz with onboard gfx card...(my other frnd has)......

coming back to ur point there is no way that a p4 at even 3.2 ghz can match an allendale(core2duo) at 1.86ghz.and my opinion ..never go for p4..they run very hot....and in ur budget 16.5k this is what u can get :

1.e6300 + msip965 neo
2.e6400 + gigabyte GA-8I945PL-S3 .....look at the thread started by koolkapoor..great graphics+ok proccy or ok graphics+great processor ..u will get help there....

i still dont no the diff between a 945 chipset and a 965 but i pmed koolkapoor and he told me that he was able to overclock his e6400 @2.4 frm that mobo..i dont know bout msi's overclockability...pple help me here too....if u want 3 ghz ..u can overclock..even e6300 will go there..but not with mobos in ur budget(my budget is same too and i am telling u of what i'm thinking of buying).....

as with ram yes,667 and 800 are not available freely.....go with 533...u can get corsair memory with d9 chips..and go for atleast 2*512 in dual channels...512 will not work that good..and besides even vista occupies 500mb of ram...so no free ram there.... 2*512 or 1gb ram ddr2 533/667 will cost around 5k...
ya i just hate intel mobos so i dont know much about them....

i dont knw why ppl are in such a hurry..to get their..hands dirty over core 2 duo's ..i suggest better wait..until some more stable mobos..come up in india...and...the soaring RAM prices come down....anywayz ..the C2D prices..are not gonna comedown..atleaset for next 4-6 mnths..
so better..wait for good mobos

if i am not wrong the 2.66 ghz core 2 duo processor alone costs around 20 K

E6300(allendale, cheapest core 2 duo) > Any previous Intel CPU and also >=amongst the fastest AMD CPUs at stock, overclocked it beats any previous CPU or almost equals it/equals it.

There is no point unless you can spare atleast 15k+ just on the CPU + Motherboard.

Consider X2 otherwise which is only 1-3k cheaper

@h_phalak:don't post abt things you don't understand,yappin about 3.0ghz core2duo on a 15000 rupee computer,when it doesn't even exist,and the closest to it,the extreme c2d costs thrice your budget....($900+)

@last poster, he isn't aware of the new CPUs, you don't need to show off.

And yes, a 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo doesn't even exist, the closest is 2.93 at around 1000$
