error : external HD drive access

Hello Guys ,
A Problem . I have an external HD (40 GB) which is actually formatted into three drives such as 20 + 10 + 10 . It works good for a while but now a error message says invalid partition when accesiing the first drive . Its corrupt . Is there any way i can retreive some files from that drive . Other drives are Okay . Is there any other way to make the disk workable without formatting it .
