Default HDD is dead...Help!!!

My computer's HDD is dead. Whenever I am connecting it to any PC, the PC doesn't boot (in either case of the HDD being the Master or Slave). Is there any way of recovering the important data I had in that HDD?

If you hear odd sounds from your HDD, the head has crashed and the chances of recovery are almost none.
If its absolutely quite with no vibration (keep them near your ears when the pc is on) it can be a problem with the controller card. Try replacing it.

Disconnect PSU from motherboard & other peripherals, switch on the PSU and plug the hard disk

I have recently recovered dats from a friend's lappy HD using Knoppix!! Professional data recoverers said nothing is recoverable but still I recovered using Knoppix. We used a 1GB card and card reader to transfer data.

Get hold of a Knoppix 5.0.1 DVD, boot thru it and hope for the best
