With such a high budget you should only consider a Core2 Duo based PC. Even the slowest C2D proccy will beat the X2 3800+. Availability will be a problem and you might have to wait awhile.
Consider a X1900GT based card if you can find it or a 7900GT.
Other than that get a 965P based mobo, 2 GB DDR2 800 RAM, 2x400 GB SATA HDD's.
Any cordless keyboard and mouse of your choice, Logitech Z-5300 5.1 speakers, and a 20" widescreen Samsung or Viewsonic LCD.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
A decent 965 series motherboard, get something which lets you overclock to atleast 2.5GHz+ speeds.

2 X 1GB DDR 2 667 Corsair (D9 chips)

Geforce 7900GT

Seagate Sata II NCQ 300GB/250GB

Antec NeoHE 500

Logitech MX518

Microsoft Multimedia/Internet Keyboard

Samsung 798MB Plus

DVD RW+Combo

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value

After market CPU cooling

You could go with the config given above except for the monitor. A 17" CRT for a high end gaming rig makes no sense. Get atleast a 17" LCD or preferably a 19" widescreen LCD.

17" CRT makes a lot of sense.

17" LCD not in budget

17" flatscreen CRT is about Rs. 6500. 17" LCD is about Rs. 11,500.
Ditch the soundcard and use onboard. There's 5000 bucks saved. A quality monitor is more important for gaming than improved sound quality.

1) Sound card was only around 2-3k. A cheap 17" TFT is of no use and will become a hurdle when you need to reduce the res in newer games. Get the 17" CRT period.

2)I don't advise 19" CRT, it should be around 10k, a good one might be a little more. On a 19" CRT you won't like to play below 1280X1024 because of the very low pixel to area count, lines and all you know. But the system you are getting will need to play many games at 1024X768 that too which are already released and the future is all 1024X768 for a 7900GT. So a 19" monitor will probably make your games look like crap unless you lower the graphic detail which also is not what I would want. Therefore a 17" CRT is your best bet.

3)7600GT SLi>7900GT, but then you need to get a better power supply, spend a bit more, get a slightly more expensive motherboard, rather spend 5-7k more and get the 1900XT! And a 7600GS SLi is not advisable, though you should research your bit. 7600GT SLi will surely be better. But you are forgetting that if you get the 7900GT with a good cooling solution and volt mod it and overlcock it, it is one hell of a card and competes the 7900GTX!

A notebook is not meant for gaming as a PC is.

I know that I am exceeding your budget, but at the end it will be worth it. If you want to save some dough, consider X2 3800 (939) + Asus A8N E, which is surely less future proof but stilla good gaming solution especially once overclocked or even AMD 64 3500 + Asus A8N E and overclock it past 2.6GHz speeds with good cooling solutions.

Here's a price list i got from a place in Chennai.

C2d E6300 + Intel original w/ 965 chipset(dnt know exact model) ->Rs.16,850
1GB DDR2 533 ->Rs.4800
250GB HDD SATAII -> Rs. 4100
SONY DVD/RW(box) ->Rs. 2400
17" Samsung LCD ->Rs. 10,250
Logitech G5 Laser Mouse -> Rs.3700
BIG 7900GT 256MB PCI-E-> Rs. 15,000
Cabinet + SMPS -> Rs. ????

I neva laid my hands on any of the items.....so cant give u more details abt it.This was his price quote. What do all of u think?? Should i go for it??And dnt knw wether he was joking abt the 7900GT being only 15k.Any idea whether the C2d E6400 is available in Chennai and where??
Give in ur opinion folks!!....thanx!

Now way in one can get a 7900GT for 15k. Even the XFX 7600GT XXX edition costs 13k+.
I would say:
C2D E6400 + gud 965 mobo[~20k] Go for E6300 if 6400 is not available.[16.5k]
1GB DDR2 667[6.5k]
single 7600GT[11k] I would say now u buy only a 7600GT as DX10 cards would be out soon with shader model4 nd more features. Upcoming games like UT 2007 nd Crysis gonna use those features nd u won't be able to play those games with even med details@1280*1024. The GF7s gonna be outdated soon nd GF8 is gonna be released within 6 months. A 7600GT could let u play all games at max@10280*1024 till then. Then u invest bout 20k for a decent DX10 card.
2x250GB SATA2 in raid0[4kx2=8k]
Sony DVDRW[2.3k]
17" flat CRT[6.2k]
A good cheap cab with gud ventillation
Antec or good 450/500W PSU.[8k]
