Default Cofig. query from a new member

Hi all. I am a new member of this great forum. For quite sometime I am going through this forum of very helpful and co-operative members.

Now I want a information from you all. Hope you will not dishearten me.

My machine is about 5 years old PIII 933MHz, 384 Mb Ram. Intel 815 Motherboard, Seagate 80Gb etc. I work as a professional graphic designer and sound engineer (working with Photoshop CS2, Corel X3, Indesign CS2, Sound Forge 8.0, Adobe Audition 1.5 etc.). Planning to expand it to video editing also (using Adobe Premier 1.5 or like softwares).

Now I want to upgrade my machine. First I will go for only a processor, motherboard, cabinate with power supply, proper cooling system if at all needed, ram (at least 2 Gb), graphics card, sound card, DVD writer. All of these must be of high-end.

Mind it, this is absolutely for NO, repeat NO gaming purpose.

My budget is 30-40 thousand. I am from Kolkata, please consider it. I have to buy here in my own city. Again I am in not that hurry, I can wait for upto October-end.

Thanking you all in advance for any help and suggestions.
Have a great week-end.

AMD X2 4200+ :11000
A8N E: 5500
2x1gb: 8500
7300GS: 3800
250GB sata2: 4000
Sony 820A: 2300
cab with 450w: 2000
Creative audigy 2: 1700
----------------------------
38800

I suggested 7 series gcard as it supports H/W HDTVand all latest effests in a small price. Its more than enough for the purpose. Try to get 256 MB version. Even 7300LE would do. But buy only 7 series. Its also 100% Vista ready.

Always a dual core is better in such applications.
HDD of at least 250GB would be necessary as it would be bare min for vid editors.
For vid/Aud editing 2 GB is nice. Dun waste money on low lat mem. Instead get more amount. Run 2x 1GB in dual channel ie 800MHz.
U needn't buy a high end power supply as there isn't any power hungry device in the config. Get zebronics 450W.
As bout sound card get a creative 7.1 card. If u want the best got a Creative X fi Extreme music for bout 6k.
If u have more tha 10~15 k then get X fi fatality or even Elite pro(bout 24k).

I am amazed. Why don't you both suggest a new intel core2duo processor? Is my budget not sufficient? or performance problem? can anybody suggest a intel core2duo config. in this budget. In fact I am no amd fan. but not biased as well.

again are these what you suggested available in kolkata? anybody from kolkata suggest?
thanks and regards.

You said you can wait till October end. Would you be able to stretch that a bit more? Perhaps by a couple more months? There's a higher chance that prices will come down after the christmas selling period.

Also one more thing, if u r thinking of buying it now then the approx. price of different component cud be qouted......but if u want to buy by the end of
October, then i must say that price changes a lot here in kolkata and it also depends on the availablity(sometimes this is the biggest problem).

So better get the qoutation/estimate when u r ready to buy.

Also u can look at this thread: All configuration (new and upgrades) related queries here the prices qouted are from few months back.....but u do get the rough idea.

You won't get high end in this budget.
I am assuming that you are not going to game nor are you going to overclock and only need for basic usage and some graphic work, more 2D then 3D.

Core 2 Duo E6300
Asrock 775
14k

2 X 1GB DDR 2 533 or 667 if you can afford it
8-12k or so

250GB or even 300GB SATA II SEAGATE
3800/4500+ or so

Geforce 6600 vanilla, you don't need a 7600GS

Cooler Master 450 + Generic cabinet

Creative Audigy 2 Value

Mouse, preferably MX 1000 etc from Logitech if you can afford it. else atleast Comfort 3000 from Microsoft, costs sub 1k

Monitor, 17" CRT true flat samsung 798mb plus

I am late answering you, sorry guys.

Thanks for all your replies.

Please let me know
1. Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro. Does it support multi channel recording using 2-4 microphone inputs without a mixing board? What about its price?
2. What is the basic difference of 64FX and 64X2?
3. What about the Altec Lancing MX 5021 Speakers, Price and Performance ? Any forum member use this?
4. 7600GT card of which make? Are the prices same or comparable?
5. Is it possible to run two CRT monitors simultaneously using this card? How?

1)Don't know. Why don't you get Creative X-Fi?

2)FX is an enthusiast series CPU from AMD targetting only the uber high end and offer almost no scope for overclocking. X2 - dual core, and comes both in mainstream and high end AMD CPUs and may have lots of room for overclocking which can make them as fast or faster than the FX. No need to buy any of these. Intel Core 2 Duo beats the hell out of any AMD CPU.

3)Should be around 7k - 8k, should be good, but 2.1ch i think.

4)XFX, around 11k, not recommended for serious gamers witch more money.

5)Not sure, but maybe.
