Default intel 865 v/s 845

halo again
wanted to ask if 865 chipset intel mobos have bettr onboard graphics than intel 845 ones...i have this 845 mobo which im thinkin of replacing wid a 865 one (sorry, but current budget limits are set to these)
also, if the ans to above quesn is yes, do suggest a good intel board (wid 478 socket) which is on the cheaper side but "good" onboard graphics
a quick reply would be appreciated!!

A intel845 chip based MB is cheaper and Available any time and any where. But if u r looking for better OBG and feature, 865 is better choice than 845.

there is very small difference in performance of onboard gfx b/w 845 and 865, only advantage in 865 is that u can get AGP 8X slot

If you can find, get an 875 maybe, there will be a small boost, more from 865 in it.

The onboard graphic wont get you anywhere, I'd suggest buying an 865 GBF along with a card like 5700 or 5200 at minimum, if not the 6 series of GeForce.

You can go for the Intel 865GBF mobo which features Intel Extreme Graphics 2.But as socket 478 processors will be discontinued not far from now,I suggest you wait a little while,let the AMD AM2 prices fall and buy a good mobo or just buy a socket 939 mobo like asus a8n vm csm coupled with a good processor like AMD Athlon 3500+ or AMD X2 4400+.The AMD mobo offers much better performance-it has the Geforce 6150 IGP.

well an 865 is definitely better, bcoz some 865 chipsets have support for dual-core, 64-bit processing.

@QwertyManiac
my friend got a gigabyte 865 mobo with dual-core support & AGP 8X support

well i think most of the 7 series are PCI-E based, however u may find some entry-level 7 series cards in AGP..............very rare though

6800 GT will handle any game, but i think the AGP variant requires additional power supply.

@paul_007
yes, the mobos support the lga 775 socket

Yes, keep atleast something like 450 since even drives and other parts suck power. For a graphic card, best practice is to have atleast 400w
