Wink Decoders

I have a doubt about decoders.

I came to know that some Speakers have that special components like 'decoders'.

What's the purpose?

Does we need a sound card to connect the speakers that having decoders?

I finally want to know that sound card is essential for this speakers with decoders? Especially Philips HTR 5000........

Default Re: Decoders

decoders are special hardware that .. distribute digital input ..which carries data like.. which speaker should produce what sound.. like dolby.. and convert it into analog signals that speakers can understand.. the advantage being they are dedicated and so the audio quality is better.. and yes, you need some kinda sound hardware that converts the audio signals in the disc or the program so that the decoder can understand ..
