Well I dont think any 2.5" hard drives based on Perpendicular Magnetic Recording have hit the retail market in India. As a result, you would be stuck with max of 100 GB hard disk drives. Moreover, you also need to be careful with their type. The newew 2.5" drives are based on SATA and you have a ATA-100 hdd controller. The max I have seen is a 100GB 5400rpm drive from Hitachi at Lamington Road in Mumbai for a street price of 6k. I think it is good enough, anything over 100GB is an overkill. You could be better off with a external DVD writter otherwise.

Yes, you can put any drive as far as it uses the same interface. Replacing the drive is so simple that you can do it yourself, atleast on the Acer.

Thank u so much for that info...but i am from kolkata...anyways thanks a lot it gives some idea...

"Moreover, you also need to be careful with their type. The newew 2.5" drives are based on SATA and you have a ATA-100 hdd controller. "

does it mean that my acer laptop 3212 cannot accommodate SATA hard disks which are of larger size....?????

" I think it is good enough, anything over 100GB is an overkill. "

I am planning install sap application on hard disk and use it to boot it...so ext hard disk will not serve the purpose as we cannot boot from ext hard disk...

thanks for ur replies... plz clarify above two queries...
