Default Speaker Hunt!!

I want to buy a 5.1 speaker and i am on a very tight budget. i am currently

having Artis s-700 speakers. they are really good.

I have zeroed upon two speakers

1.) Artis S5500R

2.) Altec Lansing 251

Should i really change from 2.1 to 5.1? i mean will it be good for music &

gaming?

Also have anyone heard Artis s5500R? it comes along with remote.

Please help me in deciding the speakers.also suggest anyother speaker

if you think are better and fits in 4k-4.5k

hello akshay. since you are using altec lansing 251 your are my guiding light!!

how do they sound in music? currently the review of digit didnt fared them

good.anyway tell me your experience buddy.

i am right now using artis s-700 2.1 speakers. they are at par with ATP3

i think.maybe +-5% performance.

i love there performance. So what do u say 251 music will be better than

2.1 speaker? thats the only thing we can compare.

i am having audigy soundcard.

Let me know what you think

If you ask me, 2.1 and 5.1 are two different species! Well, if you're a music maniac, I'd suggest you go for a 2.1 set of speakers... The reason is simple: music is optimised for 2 channels! And for that reason music will sound great on 2.1 set of speakers.

Mm.. 5.1 speakers're optimised for DVD movies and Games (Surround Sound). So if you're more into Games and Movies, go ahead with 5.1 set of speakers. If you're more onto Music, I'd suggest you bet on a 2.1 speaker.

Altec Lansing MX 5021 is what I have. It's a 2.1 channel speaker. SUPERB!

If you're planning on a 5.1, you can go for Artis X10. Artis s5500R is a good choice too... My friends don't have one of those, so I cannot bet you on it's quality.

1.)i just simply wanted to know the comparison for music.

i mean that it this way if we take 2.1 speakers around 3.5-4k the top will

be altec lansing ATP3,logitech x-230,artis s-700 i guess so, now consider

the playback of music mp3 on this speakers as 100%.

Then where shall you rate the altec lansing 251 mp3 playback?

i just wanted to know the comparison on the basis of experience.

2.) i dont have budget for mx 5021 & artis x10 mini. IF someone have artis

s5500R or have listened to it then please let me know howz the performance.

according to digit s6600R beats even logitech z5500D in Gaming test (lol....)

a bit hard to believe.

so i guess if we take it as true then 5500R should be also good considering

its 2400w pmpo against s6600R 5000W.

I'm not sure about these speakers, but all I can say is that you'll not see any major difference in sound quality between 2.1 and 5.1, when it comes to music. For gaming and watcing DVD movies, 5.1 will give you the best experience. Make the decision on what you are into mostly.. If you are only a casual gamer and watch movies occasionally, but listen to mp3 very often, then I would suggest you to go in for a better 2.1 in your budget, rather than ending up with a mediocre 5.1 set... Hope this clarifies..
