Same thing happened with my cousin's burner. He has a Liteon burner. It does not burn some media but works fine with others.

How to find the firmware upgrade that I might need? And how to apply the same?

The procedure is short and simple. ( at least in case of Sony) I have done it once with my DRU 810A.
In fact I did it out of curoisity only.

Very well even my friend's liteon cd writer fails to burn imation cd-r's but works well other brands. I am not still sure whether the firmware upgrade will solve the problem
