i don't know much about them.
their series (as p3, p4, d, xeon)?
about approx prices?
tell me how they perform better than intel procies?

Re: amd processors
is it coz of their higher FSB (800MHZ-1GHZ)
but they hav lower clock speeds & L1,L2 cache?

Re: amd processors
AMDs got shorter pipes nd mem controller is integrated into CPU. Also uses Hypertransport speed upto 2000Mhz.

Re: amd processors
AMD is better than intel....for now...
The best option would be for a 939 based procey..preferibly with a Venice core...

AMD processors have a inbuilt memory controller...Intel processors don't..
AMD has HTT (Hyper Transport Technology) which makes it much faster than intel processors..
also the Athlon64 architecture is much superior to the Intel architecture..

wht are memory controllers?
how it varies the performance if they are inbuilt or outside the processor?

Mermory controllers read/write, to/from the memory. So if this controller lies inside the CPU. this mean CPU directly accesses to RAM. This has the following effects:-
1) Faster access, since request do not need to go via FSB (like in the case of Intel) better for games.
2) A64 CPU are not that much cache dependent for example 512KB to 1MB cache only produces 5-10% of performance improvement. This is because small bits of data r read very efficiently from RAM. On the other hand Intel CPU are heavily dependent on its size, A64 CPU perform better even with half as much cache as on Intel. Since cache takes almost 70% of the silicon die size of the processor, thus AMD CPU are cheaper to produce.
3) No need for a north bridge (contains memory controller), so motherboards are cheaper to produce
4) It has limitations, A64 CPU cannot drive more than 2 RAM sticks at full DDR400 speed per channel. This means at full speed use can use only 2 RAM sticks for Socket 754 and 4 RAM sticks in socket 939. Intels dont have this limitation.

pl explain this further.
FSB of pentium d 805 is 533mhz so ddr2 ram of >533mhz will work as only 533mhz or with its original frequency?

Re: amd processors
wot is intel desktop pc pentium 4...approx L1 cache?? is it greater than amd L1 cache..? is it bcoz amd processors are preferred? then y intel L2 cache greater than amds L2..? is this adavantage or useless..????

Re: amd processors
AMD advantages-:
HyperTransport
Lower clocks,so lower heat produced
Inbuilt mem controller
Cool n quiet technology
Intel advantages-:
HyperThreading(improves multitasking)
Higher clocks(more heat..)
Intel takes a beating when it comes to price vs performance. The higher clocked, heavilt priced Intel proccies fail to deliver the output as much as the comparitively low priced AMDx2's can. But hopefully, this scene will change with Conroe,Merom and woodcrest stepping into the market.

I think it will run at 533mhz only, unless ofcource you overclock the FSB.
About the other thing - the RAM sticks with A64 CPU: The A64 CPU can only drive 4 banks of memory / channel at optimal speed which is a hardware limitation it has been built with. Most RAM sticks have chips on both the sides, which means it has 2 banks (although there are sticks which have chips only on one side but have 2 banks). This translates to maximum 2 RAM sticks @ max speed.
Example: for 3 memory modules (more than 4 banks) the max speed would be DDR333 and not DDR400.
Since S754 are single channel means it can drive 4 banks and S939 being dual channel would support 8 banks of memory at optimal speed.
Also dont confuse this with FSB speed, and this is only valid for AMD A64 and not any Intel proccy.

Re: amd processors
Thanx buddy.
Well I have visited many websites overclocking pentium d 805 and most are using DDR2 667 and DDR2 800 but they have overclocked the FSB to the same level as well (667 and 800 respectively)...thus overclocking the CPU to 3.8 ghz levels.
I think the FSB and memory will work in 1:1 ratio only.
