I connect the drive with the other free SATA port. However, WindowsXP didn't recognise the drive.ON inspection I found that the assembler had configured the controller as IDE controller, not SATA/RAID controller. However, before choosing SATA controller, I wanted to ask whether would it format my HD's or would my data be lost. I have to convert to SATA controller, and a answer would help me find judge the amount of backup I would have to make. |

Well .. just go to the bios and enable the second SATA port ... well .. u can't really configure anything as only IDE or anything ... ur mobo should do it automatically .... just make sure the particular channel ur connecting to has detection enabled from the bios (like i've PATA 3,4 and SATA 3,4 disabled coz i don't use them) ...

If you are using a SATA disk and it is working, it should be working as SATA.
From what I understand from your post is that you mean that it is listed in the device manager under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", which I think is normal even in case of SATA.

but XP doesn't allow me to use disk space of the second SATA disk, even though it detects it. |
