Re: Help me to differentiate between 6200 64bit and 6200 128bit memory interface
Because a 7600GT is way out of his budget while a 6600 isn't that much more expensive than a 6200.

Re: Help me to differentiate between 6200 64bit and 6200 128bit memory interface
Thats coz it costs a hell lot more than the 6600 specially in India .... the 6600 should be the only low level entry card keeping in mind the upcoming games ... coz the 6200 barely handles any current game at 1024*768 , while the 6600 should manage still at 0124*768 , with med. + high settings ....

Either get a 6600 vanilla or a radeon x1300 pro. The latter is the best bang for the buck and all of them are 128bit.

It seems nobody has addressed his real question
ie.,
now how can i differentiate between 64 bit and 128 bit memory interface
of the card . I heard that 6200 with 128 bit has better performance than its

Re: Help me to differentiate between 6200 64bit and 6200 128bit memory interface
Generally in the 128bit, RAM will be arranged in an L shape. 64bit will be just a straight line.

How will the arrangement of the RAM modules in different shapes determine whether it will function as 128 bit or 64 bit? Or does it mean 128 bit modules need positioning in a particular shape?

Re: Help me to differentiate between 6200 64bit and 6200 128bit memory interface
Generally video card memory controllers are crossbars... A 128bit controller is actually a combination of two 64bit controllers in parallel... (The big exception to the rule is the X1*** series from ATI which is no longer a crossbar but a ring). A single RAM IC has a 32bit data access path. So to get 64bits you need atleast a pair. You'll find most cheap 64bit cards with two chips at the outer edge of the card. For a 128bit card(simplest eg radeon 9600xt 128MB with 4 chips in an L shape), you'd need two 64bit ram controllers. and for 256bit card, you'd need a minimum of 4 pairs of chips (simplest eg radeon 9700/9800 pro with 8 chips in an L shape both at the back and front of the card). When you need to have more ram, you either increase the density of the chips or increase the number. The latter is generally done as high density chips are harder to produce and consequently more expensive.

Re: Help me to differentiate between 6200 64bit and 6200 128bit memory interface
Is there some software through which we can know the interface (64,128 bit etc) of the memory of a G card.
