Question HDD partitions, physical or logical???

Hi friends,
I was thinking that when we make partitions on a HDD , are they made physically or logically????I mean is our HDD physically divided into partitions ??? I was thinking this because I noticed that when we move data within a partition , it occurs instantly but when we move data to a different partition ,
it takes longer as if being copied.
Any idea ?????

Hmm...Good question...hey if it a physical partition then formatting the drive will reduce its life....??.....Then it is better to create a logical partition............I think mostly it is logical......by default disk managment tool makes a logical one.......???
Are my consepts correct??

It is ofcourse logical , well if you move data in the same dive its just mapping it to a different position , i.e only the pointer changes. Moving to a different drive would mean moving the data from the current location to another place in the harddrive.

@cyrux , when u say it will move the data to a different location in a different drive , doesnt that mean that HDD is physically partitioned???
