help needed in using old hard disk

hi der everyone
i have this old hdd samsung SV4012h 40gb which i want to use for the sole purpose of linux seperately the problem is when i remove the new one nd connect this one either the cd writer stops showing or the hdd so there is no way i can install ny os on it
plz help me with it

Seems the jumper problem!
The jumper setting in ur old HDD is not correct, thats why its creating problem.
Set the jumper in the HDD to primary master and in CD writer to primary slave.

man i don't have ny jumper in the hdd

that means it is set in secondary mode... chk the cddrive if it also has no jumper then it too is in secondry mode... get one and install as said on the hdd/cdrom (valid only for 40 pin wire)

or get a 80pinwire and put jumpers on cable select (CS marked on drives) on both the drives and plug in...

Also if u have 80 pin cable then may be ur drive is in CS mode.. put a jumber in hdd where marked CS..
