Default over heating

I bought a PC (D915GV, P4,512MB RAM with combo drive, no external graphics card) and it is working fine for over 1 and half year and all of a sudden while i was playing NFSMW (two profiles completed) my system got crashed. So after i restarted my PC an error occcured "Your PC was last shutdown due to over heating".This is the first time such an problem(also the first problem) occured. And after that my system never booted properly. And moreover after waiting for it to cool for sometime and when i restarted it boots for a while and again restarts itself automatically for quite some time until i shut it down.

I want to know what could be the problem. Do i need to repair the cooling system of my PC.

Yep,
the problem may be due to an improper mounted Heat sink or faulty fan....And also intall a software which will inform u that ur system is overheating so u can save all ur work...Games like NFS are resource hungry and overheat the CPU..is ur cabinet placed at a well ventilated area........is ur cabinet well ventilated....which P4 do u have ?????

1st of all clean ur cabinet from inside probably with a vacuum cleaner....
if this fails
2nd remove ur side pannels n then try running the games...
if this fails
3rd check the manner in which ur fan is connected... ie either working as an outlet fan - one which drives hot air outside(preffered always) or inlet fan(shld be used if u ha AC, or the room temperature is cold n free from dust)
inlet fan shld be a front pannel or side pannel... but not rear pannel..
if this fails
4th remove heat sink n then apply a coolent from any manufacture of ur choice............ (highly risky if u r a rookie n dont know how to do tht)
n now if this fails which wont then
5th get urself a new heatsinkfrom coolmaster or any manufacturer

Better keep quiet than giving misleading advice.
I guess what you meant is heat sink compound / thermal paste.

You are perfectly correct if you meant that using a radiator coolant is highly risky for the computer.

Take it easy! I was only pointing out the misleading usage in a humorous way.
