I think u had overclocked the card beyond its limit....
Similar situation had happened to me with my 1st Pc...
I was having Geforce 2 Mx 400...
But i overclocked it to major extent....
it would normally crash in tht status...
but even after when i brought back to the origin clocking of the card... it would crash while playing game or would give relatively low FPS or srceen would develop interlaced type of pattern...
i was even not able to play FIFA 2005 or GTA vice city...
BUt after about a month or two it again started to work normallly....
All the above games were working fine now
In tht period i was using onboard graphic....
So i guess not using ur card for longer time(say abt week) may be the remedy to this problem....
I may be wrong but this worked for me, now even NFSMW works on it without any problem

Three reasons:-
1. Bad Power supply
2.Too much heat
3.Faulty Vrams chips.

Simply try Nvhardpage to overclock ur card.

And please check the above mentioned conditions, i stated.

Yes sometimes the overclocked GPU might give less FPS.Reset to default and start all over again!

This is a funny answer. No offence but i would like to mention a blown graphics card is not like an illness that will automatically get cured after sometime
