Default Will 64bit intel processor works with normal windows xp


I want to know Pentium 64bit processor works with normal (32bit) OS windows. I heard that there is also 64bit OS released by Microsoft. So, What is use that. Can anybody help me to tell whether 32bit processor can run 64bit OS(windows) and vice versa.

all 64 bit processors are backward compatible

i.e. u can run a 32 bit OS on them
but the vice versa is not true

I'm using P4 3GHz 64-bit on Normal Windows XP...
