If you go to
http://www.samsungodd.com you will find firmware updates for this drive. If that doesn't work, download "winmtkflash" from here:
http://digi.rpc1.org/mwf.htm
Try using IDE mode if the ATAPI mode does not work. Read the instructions on the web page very carefull, as all this is very risky.
I had one of these "Octoedge" drives with me, and mine NEVER wrote a CD correctly, always having power calibration errors. The calibration unit in the drive seems screwed up, as lots of drives of this model are going repeatedly for warranty, and my drive went for warranty service 3 times and yet didn't get fully repaired! My dealer told me that this model was problematic, lots of units were going in for service. In the end, I decided to throw away this drive and buy an LG, which works really good.
