Default DVD CAPACITY ERROR

After going thru all the posts on the best dvd writer i finally bought a sony 810A dvd writer .
my problem is my blank dvds are of moserbaer with a capacity of 4.7 gb, the writer recognises this disc as 4,489 mb.
i have installed the nero 6 provided on my win 98 se.
why is there such a discrepany between the disc capacity and that shown by nero

actualy storeage media manufacturers take
1 GB = 1000 MB, 1 MB = 1000 KB, 1 KB = 1000 bytes

but windows take
1 GB = 1024 MB, 1MB=1024KB, 1KB=1024 bytes

u will notice some less space in ur hard disk drive too
in short nothing is wrong with ur writer or software
