If the warranty has expired, I am sorry that theres nothing that can be done, since RAM repairs have been unheard of until now. So buddy, just say bbye to the old RAM & go in for a newer stick...

I dont think a ram stick can be repaired or manufactured in india.
As os repairing a ram, i have never heard of such a thing ever.

tell him to buy some good branded ram with lifetime warranty like kingston. the warranty is there till the chip is being manufactured. it will cost around 300-400 bucks more but its worth it. i got my kingston ram replaced twice without any probs.

My friend... a computer engineer told me that a ram stick can be repaired only if the fault lies in the capacitors..transistors or n the memory chip....any circuit problems cannot be repaired...but finding a person who can detect the fault and repair it...is difficult...very difficult..in fact ihavent found anyone in 2 years of searching.....so it is better to buy a good ram.......simmtronics, kingston and transcend ram can be trusted....

lifetime warranty means the time till the chip is in production and its not 5 years. it can be less or more.

Dude.. Anyone with such knowledge of electronics would not be cheap. and also AFAIK complicated and probably expensive equipment will be required to pinpoint the problem, employing such services will be probably more expensive than the ram itself. therefore getting a new RAM is cheaper.

only one thing we can do on our own. if RAM is working slow than its given speed, then just wipe the teeth of the RAM with eraser on both the sides. Actuly u should do it every time u clean the CPU.

Personally, I feel that Hynix is good enough for regular use. It is stable as far as I have used it. I think the probability of failure is only slightly higher for Hynix and not worth the additional cash that you sink into for Transcend/Kingston, etc. Only if you are into overclocking or need that slightly reduced prob. of failure should you go for Kingston... However, do buy from a reliable source...
Personal experience (my dad's office has 15 computers ranging from old Pentiums to newest Athlons/Semprons) seems to indicate that in most cases, RAM modules will either fail immediately due to defects (in which case your warranty will be valid) or will work quite well for a long period (by the end of which the "lifetime" warranty will prob. be no longer valid).
