Default help in LAN setup...


hi...
i have recently bought an acer laptop...
i have this compaq desktop too... on which i have dataone modem on the network card... now i took off the ethernet chord from the modem and pluged it to my acer laptop... nothing happens.... i mean... how do i transfer files...??? i need to setup a network quick!!! please suggest me anythign!!!!
it (laptop) recognizes the cord though..

Get a Crosserover cable and connect one end to the Desktop Computer and the other end to the Laptop.

Then install a Proxy server on the laptop, provide the IP Address, you are good to go.

By the way, you would need another ethernet card for your desktop so that you could transfer files as well as share the internet at the same time.
