Default CFonverting Internal SATA DVD drive to External USB drive

i own 1 yr old HCL lappy which has given up on its DVD drive ..earlier it used to reject detecting disks ocassionally but now it has failed completely and i havnet tried fixing it using DVD lens cleaner so far at the same time My desktop pc has ide DVD drive but it cant be connected to mobo(no IDE on it)
So i have thought of hitting two goals using single bow
Cant i get myself a standard New sata optical drive and somehow get it to act as usb drive
AND hey people i do know that there exists External USB Dvd drives
iTS JUST THE GEEKs in me that calls for it

Default Re: CFonverting Internal SATA DVD drive to External USB drive

such casing will cost ~800-1000 & will require a separate power adapter.better to get a slim external usb 2.0 drive which is compact & no need for extra power adapter.
