DVD/CD-RW problem?

hi friends,

i am suffering from one problem with my Old Samsung DVD Drive (2 year combo drive).when i connect This Drive it also appear in my computer but its Reads CD But not DVD.And also it didn't writes CD as well as DVD.
whats is the problem in that it reads CD so as per my thought Lens is perfect any other factor affecting it.

i used lens cleaner also but nothing happened.

Not much can be done. Try Lens Cleaner, Check Cables check different type of DVD's . Still no luck then get it to service centre

hey mithun,
thanks for reply.
but when i insert CD into the Drive then my drive detect it within a 3-4 second only.so,its not a problem of lens.
i also updated firmware for my drive but still there is problem with DVD any other solution.

i think u have done all the troubleshooting steps as a last resort u can test the drive in a different pc & get it checked in a service center but even if it it repaired i doubt it will last long

Problem of DVD drive (lens itself). You can't do much here. Either send it for RMA or buy a new RW drive(better option between two).

P.S. 7-8 months, I've similar sort of problem with my laptop's dvd writer. It could read cd,dvd, but can write only in CD, not in DVD. I send it for RMA where it was marked as a problem with lens. One solution was there, changed that drive.

I think your scenario is almost same as me.

Today i opened my dvd writer and clean everything inside it & also clean with lens cleaner solution.but didn't work.my product is out of warranty if i send it to RMA They accept it or not?becoz i already opened it.

out of warranty=no RMA.opening casing by breaking sticker seal which says "warranty void if open"=no RMA.

a new dvd writer costs Rs.900.cd & dvd are read & written with different frequency laser & it is possible some works while other don't.

no,what i mean to ask is if i want to repair my dvd writer from service center only ,they will accept my dvd writer.because i opened it.tht's why?

they will accept it for repairing but they might give you problems in accepting it as under warranty as you already have opened it.. try First saying it is under Warranty..If they say it will be charged then ask How much.

for warranty purpose they ask for bill to verified the date whether product is in warranty or not.my product is one & half year old so its out of warranty as dvd writer has only 1 year warranty.Ok when i open my dvd writer then i seen that lens light(its blue colour when turns on then red light appear)not appear.what is the issue?is there lens problem or circuit problem?becoz my friend told me that if lens not working then they charge 500 if other problem thn only 200.whats say?

1) Looking the laser directly is bad for eyes.

2) Its better to get a new DVD Writer for Rs. 950/- than to repair the lens for 500/-

3) Even if it is a small problem and repaired for Rs. 200/- it may again give problems. So better get a new DVD RW for Rs. 950/-

OK Guys now i am planning to buy a new DVD writer but confused?the below review i heard from friend & forum.

1. Sony DVD: writer due to rashi peripheral lack of services review at here think digit threads. i heard that Sony DVD Drive sometimes do not recognize some discs or some parts of the disc if pirated?is it true?

2. Hp DVD writer:i do not read any good or bad review about that.if it is good then mention why?

3. LG DVD Writer:its reliable but takes more time to recognizing Disc.

i found out information From Asus Call center that "if you want to buy or Service your Asus Product then go to Rashi peripheral"(for Mumbai user)

After reading think digit Forum's so many threads, i found out that Rashi peripheral's service is not well.

so what i can do now?

hi there buddy you cant do any thing with it your lens is weak i faced the same problem there is ni solution for this problem you have to change your DVD Drive
