setting up HomeTheatre system on Creative Audigy Value

I have a PCI slot card sound card named creative audigy value 24 bit live. Now i want to connect my Philips HTR 5205 home theater speaker system to this card to its digital output. I don't really know if there is much difference between digital output and analog output. So please throw light on this.

Also if its a good idea to go for S/PDIF digital output then wat else will i need. I read something about needing a creative Soundblaster digital i/O module but its nowhere to be found to be bought online. SO if there are any alternative for that please suggest. If there is any alternative way to connect my home theater system to this card please suggest that as well.
