Default Upgrade ram [ Solved ]

Currently i have 2 1gb kingston ddr2 667 ram. i want to upgrade but this kingston is not available in the market. transcend 1gb and 2gb is available. can i add the transcend with kingston?

can i add 2 1gb or 2 gb? which is better?

Also there are some cheap hynix and dynet are available is it worth?

Suggestion please

Thanks,
Mani

As long as the frequency and latency match, you can use any brand. Kingston and transcend both brands.

You can add a transcend RAM with a kingston one.

If you are using win XP, then add only 1 GB RAM (As windows XP X86 version cannot utilize more than 3.8 GB of RAM). But if you are using Windows 7 X64 version, then get a 2 GB stick.

Thanks joy.das.jd...

i have windows 7 32 bit...but i can update to 64bit.
How to check the latency(what is it?)...is it written in the ram stick?

is it any difference in performance in 2x1gb and 2b stick

Since you shall be upgrading to 64 bit windows 7, so go for a single 2 GB stick. RAM latency refers to delays in transmitting data between the CPU and RAM. RAM latency is often measured in memory bus clock cycles.

It is written on the RAM modules and the cover too. It is usually a four number figure (such as 5-5-5-18). But I guess you are going for value rams, and as such these won't be such a problem.

in any case do not go for DYNET or cheap HYNIX RAMS

Got the 2GB Transcend for 1.3k from Golcha sp road bangalore. Working fine. Need to upgrade windows 7 64bit.

BTW...Any disadvantage - Advantage to installing 64bit version?

Disadvantages: None
Advantages:

a). Compatible with 32-bit applications.
b). 192GB memory limit for Ultimate edition.
