Petrol can remove the guck, but might cause corrosion on the surface. IPA is easily available. Doctors spirit is the street name. Easier to get and safely store.

Its Best cleaning agent for Electronic Items ... I use IPA only ... Acetone is too harsh .... Petrol leaves smell .... Benzene is also gud ... But it also leaves smell ...
CAUTION : Do not use IPA indiscriminately ... Vapours are Extremely TOXIC ... Do not spray .. Just dip Q swabs in it and use the Q swabs to wipe the TIM off the Heatsink and proccy ...
^^ If acetone falls on other parts of mobo which are coloured .. It will dissolve the color also ... IPA is safe ... Try geting it from some hardware industry guy u know .. They use it alot .... It is used as solvent ....
