Smile DVD drive doesn't reads!!!


SONY optiarc AD-7220A - the drive shows power and is identified by the system and takes in the disk but doesn't read it after few blinks of light.
system runs- Win xp sp2pro, intel pentiun 4 2.66ghz, 512 mb ram.

This is very common in IDE optical drives.

1. Purchase a cleaning CD and try to clean it using it. (some music will play)

2. If this doesn't work then go to sony website and get latest firmware for the Drive and update as per instruction.

(there is a guide regarding this issue in the hardware tutorial section of this forum)

Common problem.

As suggested get a cleaning kit, and clean your drive.

But don't spend behind repairing it, its not worth it, as you can get a new one for around 900 bucks.
