Default Trouble in deciding external HDD

Hello guys,
I am planning to buy an external HDD, but i am getting it hard to decide which one, i prefer 1TB HD but can go for 500GB, because what matters most is the data i will store in it.
i was going for 1TB goflex from seagate, but people suggested me about it's complaints of freequent crashing, please suggest me:
1) if i should go for 1TB or 500 GB, which one is more reliable,
2) which brand and which model should i trust most for reliability?

Thanks in advance.

me2 thinking of getting a Seagate GoFlex 500Gb from Flipkart (or locally). what other alternate to consider?

Capacity: 500Gb max.
Budget: ~2.7k
Usage: day to day use. E-Sata cable/connectivity if possible within budget.

PS: not want to make a 2nd thread as OP & i have same requirement

People will sugget u to go 4 Wd but WD give only 3 year warranty as compared to 5 year seagate warranty.

Seagate website said it carries 5yr warranty. SMC have the Go (not GoFlex) & is listed as 2yr warranty. i mailed them about the warranty period but no reply. even ITWares & Flipkart list 3yr warranty. thinking of going for GoFlex but if someone can clear doubt about this warranty. most probably will buy it by end of this month.

i think i'll need to talk directly to seagate.

2650-2750 everywhere for the 500Gb. so if i buy locally it'll cost around 2800.

Queries:
1)Any problem with 1TB Goflex in terms of performance?
2) does 1TB goflex requires external power ?
3) which one is more dependable 500GB goflex or 1TB GoFlex ?
4) i don't have budget probs till 1TB, which one should i opt for WD or Seagate Goflex ?
