Exclamation hard disk ide to usb faliure !!! need help!!!

Hi guys , currently i am stuck up with great issue. so spare time to help.
ok
my pc is out of date. so i ripped it apart and drew out hard disk(PATA) to retreive data from it.
so i bought a IDE to usb connector and power supply for it
now i connected it to my laptop which has VISTA home on it.
now as soon as i connected it, hard disk starts spinning(u can feel it) and as i connect usb, windows says new hardware detected > installing driver > device ready to use. sequence.
so far so good.
Now problems start here.
After this, touch pointer just freezes. but windows functions normally(no other problem apart mouse). also hard disk detected is not displayed under my computer.(if i use keyboard to operate computer)
However it is displayed in device manager under disk drives.
Also if go to manage option (right click my computer), a new device is listed under disk drives as DISK 1 showing nothing where partition is shown and yellow exclaimation mark.
i can seem going nowhere. so help!!!!!!!!!!

Hey gamer669, is this the IDE to USB adapter you purchased or something similar:

TECH-COM USB 2.0 to IDE Cable

Can you post a screenshot/snap of Device Manager>Disk Drives and Device Manager>ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

Also see if any option called 'AHCI' is enabled in your lappy's BIOS.

Does your HDD have any Bad sectors or any other issues, the freezing might be due to that, the systems freezes while trying to read from a bad sector or similar.

Why don't you connect it directly to your system, if you want to back it up

Here see if this helps:

Quote:
A dynamic disk's status is Foreign.

Cause: The Foreign status occurs when you move a dynamic disk to the local computer from another computer running Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional, Windows XP 64-bit Edition (Itanium), or the Windows Server 2003 family of operating systems. A warning icon appears on disks that display the Foreign status.

In some cases, a disk that was previously connected to the system can display the Foreign status. Configuration data for dynamic disks is stored on all dynamic disks, so the information about which disks are owned by the system is lost when all dynamic disks fail.

Solution: Add the disk to your computer's system configuration so that you can access data on the disk. To add a disk to your computer's system configuration, import the foreign disk (right-click the disk and then click Import Foreign Disks). Any existing volumes on the foreign disk become visible and accessible when you import the disk.
Then assign drive letters.

Yes synaptics drivers can do that too. Enable those startup entries and check.
If it doesn't work, follow:

1. Backup the data on the PATA HDD (as the following steps involve deleting all your data on the pata/ext. disk)

2. Covert that Dynamic disk to a Basic one , see:
ITsVISTA Tip 32: Convert a Dynamic Disk to a Basic Disk in Vista | ITsVISTA
(Follow every step from the given link)

2.5. reboot

3. Go to Device Manager>right click Samsung SP... USB Device>Select Uninstall

3.5. After successful uninstallation of the drive>Physically remove the drive from the USB port>reboot

4. Plug/connect in the drive

5. After successful installation of the drivers>See if the cursor freezes>Report
