Default Upgrading Advice required

I am upgrading my pc.New mobo and proci. Before I start assembling my new pc, I want to know what precautions I must take. Eg. I want to change my mobo and proci. But I want to keep my old files as they are. I have installed my Win 7 system files in C: Drive. All else in my other partitions. My C Drive will get formatted I suppose. SO what should I do first?

Copy all songs, pics and videos to external Hdd or Pen drive

Copy setup files of software you are using.

You may format c drive only if you want. But you have to ensure sufficient space for installation.

Any other important files needs backing up as well.

When I upgraded, I didn't have to format. windows detected the new mobo and installed drivers for the it with no problems
