suggest External , portable hard disk & pen drive

I thinking of buying the external, portable hard disk and pen drive.

But before buying any think i want to know more about them like the performance issue, and the type of power it needed like usb powered or need external power adapter in case of hard disk

As for hard disk i think 1TB is ok for me.
For pen drive 8-16Gb

Portable hard disk
Pen drive

what's your budget for pen drive and HDD. there are high performance HDD/PD and mainstream HDD/PD.

As i want normal USB 2.0 support hard disk, if possible can be upgrated to USB 3.0 for future use as i read that seagate freeagent can be used with usb2.0 and usb 3.0 by just replacing cable (Portable or external)

External hard disk or portable hard disk as if there is not much difference in the performance and price than i will prefer Portable drive over external drive.I limit the drive size to 1TB.

For pendrive the size i prefer will be between 8-16GB(USB 2.0 as i don't know pen drive with usb 3.0 is backward compatible with normal usb 2.0)

@doomgiver:external hdd=portable hdd there is some difference as far as i know portable hard disk takes power from usb cable itself but external hard disk need extra power adapter

Note:Must be Backward compatible to usb2.0 both in the case of external or portable hard disk and pen drive

yes, all usb are backward compatible. thats how you can use usb 2.0 on a usb 1.1 port.

The ones that need power are called Desk editions.

The USB3 versions of desk editions don't need external power.

And you want Seagate GoFlex Portable 1TB @ 5-5.5k

So it supports both usb 3.0 and usb 2.0. Do i need to purchase usb 3.0 cable and 2.0 cable separately ?

It supports both you don't have to buy another cable.

yes. GoFlex comes with USB 2.0 adapter and for USB3.0 or eSATA, you need to purchase adapter.
