Post System gets shutdown gracefully frequently.

Hi all,

I've got a serious problem with my system, where the pc gets shutdown command issued as OS(any) boots up. Be it Windows or Linux, whenever bootup those OSes, after a while system gets shutdown as if shutdown command was issued.

Weird observation: Sometimes when i leave my PC at login screen, observing carefully few characters get inserted at login box and suddenly shutdown process gets initiated.

Configuration:
OS: Linux and Windows 7
MoBo: Asus p5kpl-am
Processor: P4 3.0 ghz

Any help would b appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Disconnect the keyboard and see if that happens.

Post Re: System gets shutdown gracefully frequently.

Thank you guys, that worked.

I had unplugged my PS/2 keyboard when system got back to this problem. It worked quite well and also I had tried different usb keyboard and my system is working fine since then.

Only thing I wonder is, my keyboard is working fine on friends system too.

Is it keyboard problem or MoBo ?

One more thing i would like to inform that my SMPS is kind of outdated(old) or malfunctioning, because if I connect my optical drive there are chances that my Harddisk won't detect. Ever since i found this i've unplugged optical drive from my cabinet.

So do you think that(smps) could also be a reason of my current issue?

you should get a new PSU.

BTW, as your KB is working properly on your friends PC you should try two things :

try a different PS/2 KB - to make sure whether your mobo or old KB is creating the prob

try the old KB again and see what happens.
