    Is phenom X4 really necessary?
You wont need that much for mediocre gaming and web designing?? And getting heavy cpu will compensate with graphics card.

    .
Athlon 635 is an X4 (quad-core) aswell @ 4.7k. Well, the Phenom x4 955 @8k is an excellent processor (as suggested by above poster, I own it too). You can get it for 3.3k more. But that'd compensate with your gcard capital, which is more important as gaming point of view.
    So you have two options.
    P955 + Hd5770 / gtx 460 786 MB
    OR
    A635 + GTX 460 1GB.
    .
I think later will give better performance in games.
Also, you wont be ocing, so p955 wont be used till its full potential...

Phenom 955 will give a fair boost over Athlon X4 635, but it is not really worth additional 3.3k. However, if you can accommodate it in your budget, it is a good choice.
The difference between Athlon & Phenom is the L3 cahce, phenom has it, athlon doesn't . this creates a performance difference of around 7-10% between processors of same frequency.

@Op, if you do end up buying 955, I'll suggest you to try your hands on overclocking.
Just read articles at tomshardware or make another thread here.
955 is a monstor when fully unleashed. 3.6 can be reached without aftermarket hsf, provided you have enough airflow in a cabinet.
And then you can wait for gcard when 6xxx is released and prices drop.
    .
But if 'never' is the final word for ocing, then i'l suggest you 635 or a non black edition of phenom x4.

    @OP
what toad has suggested is a valid point

since u are going for a 20" screen a gtx 460 will do better than 5770
and there's not much difference between phenom and athlon (cool buddy has explained already)

now its upto you to decide

^^^op can also go for a645 if he waits a bit.
That also give time to get amd 6xxx to release in indian markets.
