Default Samsung 20" Monitor Not Showing Native Resolution !

Hi all,

i recently bought a Asus EAH 3870 512 MB DDR4 Graphic Card.
i installed it and the drivers too.
But now the problem is that my Monitor is not showing it's native Resolution !

I have a Samsung 2033SW Plus 20" LCD monitor.
it's Native Resolution was 1600 x 900, but after installing the graphic card, neither the Windows Screen Resolution Panel nor the ATi Catalyst Control Panel is Showing the Option to set the resolution back to 1600 x 900.
The list of resolutions to choose from offers all different resolution except the Native Resolution.

The Graphic Card only has DVI ports, so i used a VGA to DVI converter which came with the Card. My Monitor also has a DVI slot but i am still using the converter with a VGA Cable. So will this problem solve if i use a DVI Cable ?

Please tell me how can i bring my Native Resolution Back !

Did you uninstall the previous display driver before installing your graphics card driver? Did you restart after installing the new card's driver?

If the answer to both questions is yes, download (or copy from somewhere) the latest ATI driver and install that. Alternatively, install your monitor's driver. Either of these two approaches will probably solve the problem.

Monitor has hardly got anything to do with the resolutions shown. It is the fault of the graphics card. Uninstall the graphics driver already installed and install the latest drivers available. The resolution should show up.
If it doesn't, buy a DVI cable. Doesn't cost much (~200). Might help.
These days, even cheaper boards' IGPs support those resolutions, no reason why your graphics card won't

ok so i SOLVED IT

so apparently the problem was in cable.

i searched wikipedia and found that the two modes of display i.e. VGA (Analog) and DVI (Digital) have a projection property of their own.
my resolution was 1600x900, so it was only possible from direct DVI to DVI or Direct VGA to VGA. Converters in between cannot encode the signal properly thus unable to give the desired output resolution.
so as my grapic card only has DVI ports only DVI to DVI cable was going to help, and it did
i read your post later 'Cool Buddy' after buying the cable and i got it for 350 lol
thanks 'Cool Buddy' and all others

Glad to know your problem is solved. But are you sure it was the cable?

Last week, I assembled a new machine for a client using a Samsung B2030 monitor and an HD 5670 graphics card. The gfx card has only a DVI output while the monitor has both VGA and DVI inputs, but came with only a VGA cable.

So I used the VGA cable with a DVI-VGA adaptor at the gfx card output. No problem at all with the display at the native resolution of 1600x900.
