Require Pricelist & Suggestions
Friends i intend on purchasing a new graphics card, my very first graphics card
i have decided to go for the ATI Radeon HD 5770. Is it a good choice? i have chosen XFX as the brand, is it a wise choice of brand?
Graphic Cards - ATI Radeon HD 5000 - ATI Radeon? HD 5770
The above website lists various models, which one(s) is/are available in India?
i am going to Mumbai in the 1st week of September, any specific dealers that you all recommend?
Is it still priced around Rs 7500/- ?
Hoping to hear from you all

Re: Require Pricelist & Suggestions
XFX is the worst choice of brand because if anything goes wrong you can't get any RMA as its handled by Rashi Peripherals.

Re: Require Pricelist & Suggestions
get Sapphire/MSI/PowerColor. Gigabyte/Asus & a few others available but hard to find. also HD5770 cost ~9000. what PSU you have? just going for a fast card with a bad power supply will damage the card, if not your whole CPU.

This is to be the second part of my thread Pricelist & Suggestions for a cabinet & PSU.
At the moment my primary concern is a PSU, hence i will ask about cabinets at a later stage.
What is the underlying difference between -
Elite Power, Extreme Power, Real Power, GX Series, Silent Pro & Silent Pro Gold power supplies by Cooler Master?
&
CX, VX, GS, TX, HX & AX power supplies by Corsair?
i have narrowed down to these options :
Corsair HX 850W [CMPSU-850HX]
Corsair TX 850W [CMPSU-850TX]
Cooler Master Real Power M850 [RS-850-ESBA]
Cooler Master Silent Pro M850 [RS-850-AMBA-J3]
Can i please get the price quote for each of the above PSUs?
Another query i have is, does it matter if a particular PSU is 80 Plus Gold or Silver or Bronze certified? is there a concrete difference in these certifications?
Corsair is my first choice & it is mentioned on their website that the HX850W is 80 Plus Silver Certified whereas the TX850W is only 80 Plus Certified.
Welcome to Corsair :: Professional Series HX850 — 80 Plus Silver Power Supply Product Information
Welcome to Corsair :: TX Power Supply Product Information
Thank you for being patient with my naive behaviour & awaiting your precious suggestions.

Re: Require Pricelist & Suggestions
Elite Power ---> not sure
Extreme Power ---> suitable for nothing. bad efficiency & tends to blow up under load. AVOID.
Real Power ---> suitable for single card mid range gaming rig. 80% efficient.
GX Series ---> good PSU with good efficiency but bad internal components.
Silent Pro ---> capable of running high end cards or SLI/Xfire. cost is high. maybe Modular (not sure)
Silent Pro Gold ---> GOLD standard. 85% or so efficient. damn costly.
CX ---> entry level PSU from Corsair. CX400W only available. but can handle any mainstream card upto HD5770.
VX ---> VFM PSU. cost is high but performance & efficiency is equally higher. nothing beats this range of PSU in value.
GS ---> not know.
TX ---> Xfire/SLI ready & minimum is TX650W. good value. 80%+ efficient.
HX ---> TX with modular cables.
AX ---> BEST. GOLD series PSU for professionals or for running 3-4 cards in quad SLI or 4way Xfire. efficiency well above 85%.
i not know much about the difference between these certificates. but higher their efficiency, better the certificate. also efficiency is how much power the PSU sucks in for the amount of power your PC consumes.
if you choose, HD5770, you can start with Corsair CX400W or go for other brands also like Tagan, Seasonic, FSP, Xigmatek. until you going for 3/4 way Xfire with HD5770, Corsair VX450W will be sufficient. if planning for Xfire or going for a highend PC, all you'll need is a TX650W or even VX550W will do.

Re: Require Pricelist & Suggestions
What processor do you have? You really do not need a PSU with such high wattage. Even if you are going to upgrade in future & would not want to change the PSU, corsair VX550w will be enough. Even for an SLI/crossfire setup a 650W PSU will be enough unless you are getting 2 HD5970s in SLI
Check the power consumption of your system here Cooler Master Power Supply Calculator - Standard
get a PSU with 20-30% more wattage than the actual power draw at peak load.
For the records, HD5770 draws 108W at peak load.

i have an AMD Athlon II X2 240 (2.8Ghz) processor running on a Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P motherboard with 2 x 2GB DDR2 800MHz Kingston memory modules. Presently a friend has borrowed a 2GB memory module but i he should be returning it soon.
Should i upgrade?
As far as choosing the brand of the graphics card goes, i have decided to go for a Gigabyte card. i still haven't decided which model though -
GV-R577SO-1GD
or
GV-R577D5-1GD-B (rev. 2.0)
or
GV-R577D5-1GD-B
Radeon HD 5000 series - GIGABYTE

Re: Require Pricelist & Suggestions
Friends what is the stipulated warranty on a graphics card in general? is it a maximum of 3 years?
Also, my concern is the after-sales service. How is the customer service of MSI & Sapphire in India, do they have a service centre coupled with a toll free number?
The reason why i ask such naive questions is because i want to avoid the hassle of running to the dealer should there be a problem with the card.
i reckon that when i purchase the card from any one brand mentioned above, i must first & foremost register it on its respective website.
i apologise for my naive nature & await your valuable response.

Re: Require Pricelist & Suggestions
Thank you blademast3r for your apt response. What about the after-sales service of Sapphire, does it have a service centre in Indai coupled with a customer care helpline (preferably a toll free number )??
i have busted (& still busting!) my rear side working at an uncle's resort, handling weddings, conferences etc & being an active working member of other events just to make some money which will take care of my intended hardware purchases that i have been contemplating upon!
i have managed to make & save 20,000 INR
Apart from the graphics card, i have to purchase a good PSU (a must), new RAM modules (currently using a cousin's as mine went bad quite a while ago!) & a new UPS (still using the old one wherein the battery gives no backup at all!)
As far as the PSU goes, i have been contemplating on the Corsair TX850.
i want to purchase a kit of 4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM (2 x 2GB). i have decided to go for Kingston, is it a wise choice?
Kingston Technology Company - Memory Search - Modelsinfo
From the above link which one should i opt for?
i have not decided the specific model of UPS yet but upon reading prior threads in this forum, i have decided APC as the brand.
Sorry to have perhaps bored you all to death, my sincerest apologies.
Awaiting your replies..

Re: Require Pricelist & Suggestions
dont worry, you aren't ignored!
as go for the gfx card look at Zotac Geforce GTX460 768MB @ 10.7k. for psu get Corsair VX450W @ 3.7k (850w is a great-10 overkill) or you can go for Corsair CX400W @ 2.7k which will be more more than enough if you wont upgrade your processor. ram look at kingston 2 * 2gb ddr2 800mhz @ 4k. for the ups look at apc 650va @ 2.5-3k AFAIK.
