HP Cartridge problem

I have an HP Deskjet F4288 All-in-One printer which is out of warranty.
It uses HP 818 black & HP 818 tri-color cartridge.
I have genuine, non-tampered cartridges installed in the printer.

The problem is, this morning the printer & cartridges were working fine.
But in the afternoon, when I turned on the printer, the tri-color ink light was flashing.
But when I swapped the color cartridge with another color cartridge, the printer worked fine.

So what's the problem with the cartridge?
What about it's warranty claim?

If you use HP Solution Center (software shipped with all HP printers etc.), it tells you ink levels. Have you tried that?
