I have selected acer 5740G with core i5,4gb,500gb 1gb dedicated graphics(ati 5650) and Sony Eb26 with i3,4gb,500gb,ati 5650 with full hd screen

Pls suggest which one to buy better in terms of performance,service ?

Hi!! from my personal exp u can go for Sony rather Acer (which looks a bit girly, if that matters ) Or else you can go 4 compaq or dell lapp if any (because of their superb after sales service).

acer have created lot of problems in the past for me and my friends, the built quality of their products especially laptops is too low and by my experience laptop starts developing some kind of problem after 1.5 or 2yrs, go for dell than sony as sony products are no value for money and charge more just for brand name, I have been using Dell Studio 15 with same config that you mentioned with no problems whatsoever, also dell has on site in home service which is really nice.

Everyone in this forum will advice you against Acer...better skip that. Go for Sony Vaio E series..it looks cool and Sony has made this series affordable too.
Else Dell is another good brand to choose from. You can customize your machine on Dell website and bring the laptop under the budget that suits you...
I will advice against HP/Compaq...have had bad experiences...

Acer 5740G is one of the best budget gaming laptop available and built quality is also good. 2 of my friends has bought Acer 5740G after my suggestion and I have tested both the laptop u mentioned.
The new Acer laptops are having solid built quality, but not as good looking as Sony laptops are and in any day it is better than the Dell and HP Compaq offering.
It is having very good battery life also, 3 Hrs. Even when watching HD movies battery life is 2 Hrs.
If you want some expert review comments, go to some good sites like AnandTech, NotebookCheck, NotebookReview etc. All of them have highly positive review about this ACER laptop.

And one thing, one may have problem with Acer laptop, but that does not imply anything. I know tons of people having bad experience with Specially Dell laptops.
In case of performance the combination of i5 and HD 5650 is far better than rest of the competition. HD 5470 offered by other manufacturer is an HTPC gfx card, will not be able to play any current games in even medium setting. It is having 80 Stream processors, compared to 400 of HD 5650.
