Default need a good AMD board

hi,
my old system conked off.
decided on Processor AMD phenom !! X2 550/555 BE.

my question to you techies out there.
which motherboard should i go in for, budget is around 5 k

i would want to unlock the processor.

have narrowed down to biostar TA790GX 128M.
heard biostar has a good board TA785GE 128M BUT this board is without solid capacitors.

i have a zebronics 400 w power supply ,will it work or i would need to upgrade .
till the time being i will use the onboard graphic processor so is ttthe 400w power supply sufficient for the system.

planning to buy it tommorow from lamington road.
need your inputs
any shop recomendations also appreciated.
thanks

ps : system will be used mainly for downloading, moderate gaming

Board is Biostar TA785G3 HD @ 4k.Also you will have to buy a good PSU for that.Zebby 400 is not at all good unless its a pro series one.
You can go for Gigabyte 460W or FSP Saga II @ 2k

how much ram u have?
If u have something like 1gb then get Biostar TA785G3 HD @ 4.2K coz its got separate sideport memory for onboard graphics.

would the board mentioned above help in unlocking the 550 BE.
is not the 790 board gpu better than thee 785?

this site below was used for referencing for the boards

@all, OP didn't mention about ram. i guess he having DDR2. so, include or indicate DDR3 pricing with the board.

also for downloading or moderate gaming, opt for Athlon II X3 processors.

790GX better than 785G/780G.

i'll simply suggest, don't go for these unlocking stuff. if you fail, you stuck. better go with the Athlon II X3 or X4s. best VFM proccies right now.

u know the probabilities of unlocking the cpu?
it does not depends on the board
it solely depends on the proccy piece you have

anyways seiing ur requirements u can go for x3 435 as sam suggested
its a good cpu with enough stock speed to fill ur requirements
and pair it with either 785 based mobo(giga/msi/bio*)<-priority levels

if u still wanna go for phenom 555BE
try to look for the brand giga/msi

if u wanna get some new features like usb3 and sata3
then go for 8xx series mobo,preferably 880series by MSI/GIGA

1. X2 555 is a fast processor. but still a dual core.

2. unlocking isn't a guarantee thing. it may unlock or mayn't. some motherboards let you unlock 3rd core if 4 core unlocked processor isn't stable & gives errors.

3. fail to unlock & u stuck with dual core.

4. unlocking will produce extra heat. PROBLEM. the stock cooler can't cool a beast. RESULT. you'll have a very very hot processor. even at idle.

5. both the board you mentioned is AM2+. get AM3 board. will need DDR3 ram.

you can get
athlon II x3 440@4.5k
or
athlon II x4 635@5k
dont even consider unlocking mumbo jumbo
its not as rosy as those tech sites put it
very big chance factor
heat
processor instability in some cases
most important voided warranty

but if u r hell-bent on unlocking ,
you need a cpu cooler(whick will cost you extra 2k)(not to mention atleast 40w increased power consumption at all times)
moral of the story:
unlocking not worth the trouble and headache

for mobo go for
gigabyte ga-ma785gmt-us2h@4.6k(only problem this is not fully solid capacitor only partially solid)

---------- Post added at 01:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:13 PM ----------

dont bother about sata3 and usb3
they arent worth the premium
why?
devices aren't available yet
and will take at least two more years to become mainstream

if had gone ddr3 ram price of system would have been hiked by Rs 2400 +,
motherboard requires 2 ddr2 ram modules. i went for 1gb x2. cost me 2400.
ddr3 doesnt come in 1gb thats what the dealer told me, otherwise i would have had to change the motherboard for ddr3 ram support.

well i m not saying your cvonfig is bad.... its good.... but ddr3 is the norm now.... ddr2 is obsolete and we always advice to go with the present available things... in 6 months, ddr3 is going to be dirt cheap and ddr2 costly and hard to find.... also see this config:-

amd phenome II x2 555 BE @ 4.8k
biostar TA785G3 hd @ 4.1k

total:-8.9k

add to this:-
kingston 2gb ddr3 @ 2.6k
zeb bijli with psu @ 1.75k

total:- 13.25k....

bio* 785g3 hd also got 128 mb sideport memory + 8 channel hd audio + a nice oc'ing budget board....

and 1 gb sticks are also availabe for ddr3.... see rams in lynx-india....
