need help in building a rig
Hello friends,
I need some help in building a rig.
Budget is 35k with no monitor.
I already own a Pc with this config
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200
Intel DG35EC mobo
4Gb DDR2 Transcend ram
Palit ATI Hd4850 512mb gfx card
500W smps
500gb Hdd
I just thought of upgrading processor and stuff at first but seems like these new processors require new mobos and DDR3 ram so i need to go for a full upgrade. Havent thought of any preliminary config yet help would be appreciated.

Your rig isnt at all obsolete.Just upgrade your proccy only to a core2quad Q9400 and save some k's.

Re: need help in building a rig
Can you fill the below questionnaire so i can suggest you a good config!
Quote:
1. What is your MAX budget?
2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why?
3. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
4. Planning to overclock?
5. Which OS are you planning to use?
6. How much hard drive space is needed?
7. What resolution will the screen run at?
8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
10. When are you planning to buy the system?
11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary

Re: need help in building a rig
Your current configuration is very good and no need to upgrade right now. The best way of upgrading is to go for new 6 core processors from AMD. in the end of this year a lot of new processors are coming out. So wait till now.

Re: need help in building a rig
i agree with ajai. change proccy to C2Q 94**. change card to HD5870 or GTX470 (custom cooled). & your PSU, if it is from Cooler Master extreme series or a cheap one. done. enjoy.
no need change motherboard. ram. etc.

Re: need help in building a rig
yup.... no need to spend extra vitamin m on getting a whole new rig.... your rig is good for very much everything.... just upgrade the proccy, gpu and psu(if from cm extreme power series like sam said)....

Re: need help in building a rig
The point why i want to upgrade is that iam facing a lot of problems with this SMPS from Zebronics 500W and computer becomes laggy with this proccy when i compile code and stuff. I need this rig for Programming , and of course gaming . And moreover i heard it isnt that safe to OC this mobo. If it isnt worth it to upgrade right now and if i should wait a bit i can. Please Suggest.

Re: need help in building a rig
By a Corsair VX 450W or 500W for around 2.5-3k and wait for 6 core processors from AMD to become more mainstream and cheaper, then upgrade. As they are already in the market, you won't have to wait very long either. Plus, after 6-8 months you'll also get DDR3 RAMs cheaper as well as USB 3.0 & maybe even SATA3 Motherboards at lower prices. This Isn't a very a good time for an upgrade considering your existing configuration.
As far as overclocking is concerned, Don't even try it if you are already having problems with your PSU unless you change it. As for the lag, make sure there are no problems in windows (PC becomes slow if windows installation is more than a year old & not well maintained).

Re: need help in building a rig
cheap psu + good graphics card don't mix well. upgrade PSU is must. now decide, whether you want upgrade or almost fully new one. if simple upgrade, i already suggested. if a new cpu, better wait (& its worth too).

Re: need help in building a rig
Your RIG is fine, and will still hold up. By the way, at what resolution you play games at. First things first, change your PSU, even the HD4850 is a risk on that PSU. You gaming resolution is important.
Next:
If you really want to save money, sell that motherboard, get an OC'able LGA775 package board, and see performance go up by 20-25%. It has a decent Mx of 9.5. Also get a good OEM HSF and you should be done with a nice upgrage..say in 15-18K which would include the HSF,better PSU, OC board.
Also I doubt you will find a Q9xxx for cheap anymore. They are kind of close to gold now. Hard to find, unless you can bump upon a resale deal.

Re: need help in building a rig
yah ill upgrade the PSU at any cost and ill wait for that full upgrade. Suggest a nice PSU so that i dont have to sell it off again during the next upgrade. Normally i play games at 1280x1024 , sometimes on 1600x1200 depends actually on the game that i play on. As every one is saying to wait for that AMD 6 cores proccy ill wait and yah this Q9400 is running scarce in market i enquired the rate my dealer told me was 17k lol.
Thank You for the help guys

Re: need help in building a rig
Go for Corsair psu's as they are excellent. You can try out the Vx 450 @ 3.8k or the vx 550 @ 4.7k. The latter is beefier and can support the 5850 or 5870 with ease.If you want sli or crossfire then look at corsair tx 650,750 or 850 according to your use.Refer latest prices thread of this forum or visit lynx india for prices.
