which is better ?? pentium 4 [2ghz] or celeron D [2.4ghz].. for playing old games??

pentium 4 2.00GHz
512KB
400MHz

celeron D 2.4GHz
256KB
533MHz

i play old games released between 2001-2007 on this. currently i am using celeron D.

my specs :
processor : celeron D [above]
mobo: MSI p4mam2-v
RAM-768MB
gfx card: Geforce FX5500

i want to know that should i use that pentium 4 or keep using celeron D???

i know this rig sucks. i will assemble new PC next year after my 12board exams.

so please recommend one of above 2 processors which performs better

Celeron D is a better processor. Celeron dos not specify any specific type of processors. It is actually the renaming of the old lot of processors by Intel as a business strategy. Celeron D is the 1st generation of Pentium D processors,
which is actually 2 Pentium 4 (HT) processors are placed in a single package.
They are developed in 90 nm SOI and have large heat generation, compared to the 65 nm or latest45 nm Pentium D processors.

So it will have better performance than a single core P4

i dont think celeron D is renamed old processor.

celeron D [Prescott-256] was based on Prescott Pentium 4 core.


and other one pentium 4 is older northwood pentium 4

so please tell me only when u 'really know' about it

Since you have both the processors with you, just try them and see, thats the best way.

should i note down time taken by each processor to compress a 50mb file?
or similar movie encoding test?

Depends on what you want to use it for.
If its gaming then use the benchmark for that particular game,if it is encoding videos then test with a 5min video file,etc.
In daily use there will not be much of a difference between the 2
