Default CPU Cooler & Cabinet dilemma..

I've overclocked my Phenom II 720 BE from 2.8 GHz to 3.6 GHz.. everything is fine but when the CPU is on load it runs around 70 degress C... so I need a new cooler.. I can't go beyond 2.5k so please advice me...

Also, after the 4870 upgrade I also need a new cabinet.. I've rounded off :-

Cooler Master CM 690 II
Cooler Master Scout Storm
Cooler Master HAF 922

The price of the Cabinet should not exceed 7k (with taxes).. if you guys know any other cabinet which is good looking and performs well then please advice..

My config is :-

AMD Phenom II 720 BE @ 3.6 GHz
2 GB DDR2 @ 800 MHz (will be upgrading RAM too)
1 TB Samsung HDD
Sony DVD writer
XFX 4870 1 GB GDDR5
Cooler Master Extreme 500 W
AOC F22 Full HD 21.5" Monitor
Altec Lansing MX 5021 (I really love these awesome speakers)

Even you need to change your psu it can even burn your rig down.

All the caby's you stated are excellent you can even consider cabinets from nzxt or Thermaltake ARMOR+ MX

For cpu cooler
cooler master n520 or Thermalright Ultima-90i

The PSU ROCKS so please refrain from commenting about it.. besides my friend is running this :-

AMD Phenom II 940 BE @ 3.6 GHz
4 GB DDR 2 RAM
Sapphire Radeon 4890 1 GB GDDR5
1 Hitachi SATA 250 GB and 1 Samsung SATA 1 TB
Cooler Master HAF 922
Cooler Master Extreme 500 W..

I've been hearing a lot of negativity about Cooler Master Extreme series.. but we've seen no problem with this PSU since last 8-9 months..

Can you tell me the price of Thermalright Ultima? And as for the Thermaltake ARMOR+ i've seen some bad reviews on YouTube about it.. so won't be going for it..

For cpu cooler, go for OCZ VENDETTA 2 or SUNBEAM CORE-CONTACT FREEZER 120mm.
For cabinet, go for either NZXT LEXA S or THERMALTAKE V9 BLACK EDITION.
Both are good cabinets and most VFM......

Chuck the Cooler Master cabinets. Get an Lancool Dragonlord PC-K62 @ 7k, if not that, then get the PC-K56 @ 6k approx. You can order them via PhOeNiX on TE, who is XtremeGrafix here.

I mean seriously, mega rofl! Passive PFC Cooler Master dump quality material rocks, which is 70 percent efficient at 20 degrees celsius? If you are facing no issues, then fine, keep it.

Negativity is for very good reasons. All I can say is that both you and your friend have been pretty lucky till now.

As for the cooler, try and get the Noctua NH-U12P SE2 @ 3.8k. Save 1k on the cabinet and invest it here. It comes with two fans and is of superior build quality compared to the TRUE. You need to buy fans for Thermalright coolers, they don't cool that well passively unless you have an AC somewhere near your computer.

It's been said before and I'll reiterate - that PSU needs changing. The Extreme series from CM are very basic.

I'd recommend something like a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, but check if your cabinet is wide enough to clear this cooler, else get the Ultima 90i.

Consider the Antec 900 too - lots of fans, great ventilation...

@krow.. thanks for the advice dude.. I don't have AC in my house coz there is no need.. Himachal rocks..

Secondly, the N520's fan runs at 1800 rpm max.. so I think that it may be quiet.. what about the Noctua one?

Regarding Lancool.. what about their after sales service? Cooler Master has good service and Antec 900 is above 7k I guess.. so way over my budget.. besides.. I was watching a video of Cooler Master CM 690 II last night, it impressed me.. and is available for 5k only..

Regarding PSU.. seriously guys.. I was damn worried when I heard about the negativity.. but my friend's 4890 was with me for 2 months, no probs whatsoever.. and now there are no issues with 4870 either..

Regarding Noctua cooler, 3.8k for a cooler on 720 BE is steep I think.. and I don't think that I can ever touch 4 GHz with my processor.. But still, I'll be viewing some videos tonight about that cooler..

Thanks for your help guys..

For Cabinet get an NZXT Gamma or NZXT M59 & add extra 120mm fans & a CM H50 CPU Cooler Hydro Kit (Don't know the exact model No). Water Kit + Cabinet both under Rs.7K.

This is what I mean. Price should be around Rs.5~6K.
Get NZXT Gamma for Rs.2K add 120mm CM fans at Rs.350 each. Sunbeam fans will come for lower prices if you do not wish to spend much on fans.

Probably could. But a bit above 7K. Corsair H50 is like 5.5K.

Yup just saw that Corsair water cooling kit.. the problem is, I don't have any experience with water coolers, moreover, the coolant's life is 2 years.. and secondly, the H50 is just 3 degrees cooler than N520 and is almost twice as expensive.. see this

The CPU cooler is decided, Cooler Master N520 seems to strike a perfect balance between price and performance, just for Rs. 2600 at Lynx..

Regarding the cabinet, Cooler Master CM 690 II Plus is available for Rs. 5000 at Mediahome.. which is perfect for my system IMO..

Yeah that's right. Your choice too seem to be good. Go with it.

HellKnight, the reason all are against CM E series PSUs, cause they have a reputation of failing. It is stamped to run 600W but when calibrated and fully engaged, causes issues post >= 350W. Johnny Guru had done an extensive review of this unit, but pulled the review down, cause it exposed far too much. Probably CM being a big company did some arm twisting. I post regular on 4-5 technology forums, and the consensus is the same.

Also I would suggest to get a full tower ATX. HAF series is good. You get better cooling and cable management with a full tower. Personally I hate my CM690 now. Biggest mistake I made. Also get a cabinet with a motherboard back plate, easy to replace/change bolt down HSF/H20 kits.

The Corsair H50 is decent. Very easy to set up, and you will have a lot of empty space in your cabinet. OEM HSFs really fill the cabinet.

he probably has the extreme power plus series psu, since his one is only 8-9 month old. the "extreme power" series had probs, i think thats why they launced the plus series.

mine extreme power plus 500 is one and a half years old, and there there is no trouble yet. (its not a ver power efficient psu tho)

@asigh.. thanks for enlightening me.. but, I have really never faced a single problem with the PSU! So, when it ain't broke why fix it.. Also, my cousin will be ordering a Athlon II/Intel E5400 based system next month.. He'll be also adding an el cheapo card (4670 or 9600 GT or 5670).. So, i'll ask him to order Corsair's VX450 series, and will swap the PSU...

Regarding the cabinet, I'll be personally going to Chandigarh this month and will decide then... Regarding the CPU cooler, I don't have enough cash for water-cooling dude, I think that CM Hyper N520 fits the bill perfectly, will be ordering it this evening I think

@icebags.. thanks for backing me up dude, really appreciate it..

^^
We know that the PSU isn't making any problems for u and it's working fine , but we all are saying to change it coz u are an OC'er and when u OC u need stability and that PSU is not stable for an OC'ed PC ....
A Corsair VX450 is good but get urself a 500 ~ 600 watts PSU if u can coz that will provide more headroom for future upgrades....
