Default Home PC for very basic gaming within 30k - please suggest

My uncle wants to buy a new PC for surfing, watching movies and playing some basic games. He was adamant on buying an i5 earlier but now seems to be willing to listen to reason and let go of that idea. Can you please suggest a PC for him keeping in mind the following things:

  1. Budget is around 30k.
  2. A 19" or 20" display will be preferred.
  3. Intel is preferred over AMD because of its availability here.
  4. A good UPS is also required.
  5. The motherboard should have a slot for graphics card, which will be added later.
  6. Is a good PSU required in this case? Even if he does add a gfx card later, it will be a very cheap one.
All suggestions are welcome. Also, is an i3 a good idea in this case? About RAM - should it be DDR3 or DDR2?

Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 630: 5.0k
Motherboard: Biostar TA785G3 HD: 4.5k or MSI 785GN-E65: 5.6k or Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H: 5.5k
Ram: Transcend 2 X 2Gb DDR3-1333Mhz C9: 5.5k
Hard Disk: Western Digital 500Gb Caviar Blue: 2.4k
Optical Drives: LG 22X SATA DVD-RW: 1.1k
PSU: FSP Saga II 400W: 2.1k
Cabinet: NZXT Gamma: 2k else CM Elite 310: 1.8k
Monitor: BenQ G2020HD 20" LCD Monitor: 6.5k
Keyboard Mouse: Logitech Internet Pro Desktop: Rs. 0.6k

Total: 29.5k. for mobo get the MSI or Biostar. both got 128Mb DDR3 sideport memory. will help in a bit of gaming. also share 512Mb ram with the graphics so if 32bit OS used rest of 3.5Gb used as ram.

also the PSU is low cost & can handle any sub 10k graphics card. more cheaper PSU not recommend.

for monitor samsung or dell also would cost similar 500 bucks more
Samsung 2033SW 20" LCD Monitor @ 7.2k
rest is good. you will be adding taxes on most of the components, so you can reduce the price furthur by considering Athlon II X2 245 2.9GHz @ 3.1K for proccy, basic moderate gaming or movie watching and all wont get affected. for motherboard go for Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H with good display options(HDMI), better power saving and connection ports like IEEE 1394 which is firewire, e-SATA ............................

these suggestions are on Sam.Shab's above post.

actually i added 4% VAT on most of the products. so price got increase by ~1.5k. still the total cost should be within OP's budget.

well still price will be high. cause i missed 1 thing, the monitor is the 22" FULL HD. costing about 7.5k. so going IGP means dropping the monitor to a smaller one, 20". & PSU to a bit cheaper one, FSP Saga II 400W. total will then be with OP's budget. but ultimately it becomes almost same as to what i suggested at the beginning.

Here are the revised costs

Processor : AMD Phenom X2 555BE ---> 5k
Motherboard : Biostar TA790GX a3+ ---> 5.5k
RAM : Kingston Value Ram 2GB DDR3, 1333MHz---> 2.7k
HardDisk : WD 500GB Blue AAKS 16MB Buffer ---> 2.3k
Cabinet : Cooler Master CM310 ---> 1.5k
Powe Supply : Corsair VX450 ---> 3.8k
Graphics Card : ASUS HD4850 1GB ---> ~6.5k
LCD (Monitor) : Benq G2220HD ---> 7k
Keyboard + Mouse : Logitech Internet Pro ---> 0.6k

Total : 35k Approx.

There is no need for dropping the monitor size, cuz the motherboard can handle 1080p, also don't ever think to change the PSU, Corsair is FTW, and also has good efficiency and can maintain the system well balanced.

You can get the system below 30k, if u remove the GFX card. Or increase your budget by 5k and get this rig.

Well, it is true that I was looking for an Intel config, especially an i3 config. But the AMD configs are not useless either. I will go and ask if they are available - i5 is too expensive and I assume that an AMD Phenom X4 will be better than an i3. The other components, especially the RAM, will remain the same irrespetive of Intel or AMD, right?

Anyway, if someone can suggest an i3 config as well (just the mobo+CPU+RAM), it will be very useful. There are only two types of i3 processors available, but I am not sure they are so different in their price. Also, I can't figure out a reasonable motherboard for them.

stick with Intel Original mobos. they are cheap. & are easily avl. you'll loose IDE port + OC capacity.

^ don't go with intel, better stick with ASUS. As said you will loose OC capacity + IDE port + bad customer service + low upgrade ability.

Most of the PC users today have been using the PCs for 5-10 years now and among them; almost everyone has realized that AMD is value for money. Its only a matter of pride (may be) and show off, to own a high cost Intel proccy but an old hand would vouch for AMD. AMD has come up very well.
Unless of course u r looking at the fastest available processor right now!!

With regards to availability of AMD it may not be avbl in the shelf as easily as intel ones but AMD Athlon II x 4 630 or 620 are becoming quite popular now and you may not have to wait long for it if u place an order.
