I have a free agent 1 tb one which gave me problem in couple of months, which I gave to service center and they gave me another refurbished piece and a friend of mine has WD one which is working flawlessly for more than a year and while transferring files I observed it more faster than mine.

I recently bought free agent 1TB for 4.7k and its pretty impressive though i was kicking myself for not getting maxtor 1.5TB - it had firewire and I guess e-sata also.. but was expensive...
Don't look down anytime on seagate.. its the best... defective pieces are everywhere but that doesn't tell you to generalize something
