hot 8600gt
Hi guys
Recently i'm having sordid problems with my sparkle 8600gt.I was playing left 4 dead when suddenly the framerates dropped to a mere slideshow.
Immediately i started real temp. and to my horrors the gpu temp. was 125c!
On opening the card i found out that the fan was not spinning. So i removed the heat sink and blowed the fan with my vaccum cleaner which spewed out a lot of dust.
Now the fan is cleaned but still its not spinning and i'm unable to use my card due to high temperatures.
What should i do guys?
Please suggest?

Re: hot 8600gt
I faced the same problem as yours with my sparkle 7300GS. I am afraid your fan is burnt.. i got a new fan from dealextreme.com.. just make sure the distance of the mounting holes of the current fan and the one you choose match.

@vickybat,
Did you check the fan power cable? It might get disconnected from the PCB during the cleaning. And btw, look at your configuration. What are you still doing with a 8600GT??

@ boeing_737
Buddy can't i get a fan locally? All the fans in that site had a four screw arrangement but mine has three so fitting it might be an issue.
@ mayanksharma
No the fan cable is intact and in fact the fan isnt completely still but is making movement & unable to complete a rotation.
As far 8600gt is concerned i'm waitin for fermi so no other card is in the list.Since my system has no IGP a graphics card is necessary so please suggest what to do buddy.

Re: hot 8600gt
^^see, if you want to wait for Fermi based GPUs, then you have to give the card for repairing. Ask the vendor, may be the HSF assembly gets replaced. Or, you can always go for aftermarket coolers.

Re: hot 8600gt
@ mayanksharma , boeing_737
Thanks for your feedback guys.
Yesterday i took the card and went to Abacus peripherals(the distributors of zion & sparkle cards). The engineer removed the fan and applied some oil in it. Voila it worked and spun even better than before.Since my card was under warranty it was totally free for me.
Now he fan is good and the card is idling at 50c and at full load is not even crossing 58c.
Now i can wait for FERMI
