faulty dell inspiron 1520

Hi friends

My friend has a dell inspiron 1520 model which is customised.The config is given below:

Core 2 duo 2.0ghz(T 5series), 4gb ddr2, 160gb hdd, nvidia geforce 8600m gt.

The problem is that the images are appearing cracked with a lot of lines since yesterday,
right from bios screen to desktop screen.He's using windows 7 ultimate x64.

Since his laptop is one and a half years its out of warranty.He was in hyderabad at his bro's house and says that is laptop was ON for 4 days as he was downloading movies and even did game a bit.

Is this a faulty gpu or somethin else?

PLEASE HELP OUT ON THIS ONE GUYS.......

bro, could be lcd or gpu, as I remember just a year back I bought vostro , just after coming home, after finishing installing OS and was installing drivers which came with it, the display started its drama, some times straight or sometimes floating inclined lines, and got it replaced next day,
mostly it should be lcd, ask him to take to service center.
