Question A Low- End Gaming PC

Hi guys,
I was thinking of upgrading my CPU. Only CPU. My budget is around Rs. 20000/-, so its a low end gaming PC.
I want either Intel or AMD Dual or Quad Core (6 or more GHz) Processor, a motherboard, a 4GB DDR2 RAM, 350-500 GB hard disk, DVD Writer, a cabinet, and a graphics card.
I have no idea about graphics card, so was thinking that you all might tell me something. I dont want to play games in highest resolutions. As long as I can play games like Assassain's Creed, GTA 4, latest NFS etc even in low resolution it will do. As long as there is no glitch while I play there is no problem.
Will it fit in my budget? Please suggest.
I already have Viewsonic 17" widescreen TFT (1440x900) so I don't need monitor.

Also I'm selling my old CPU which has Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor (2x 1.6 GHz), ASUS P5GC-MX Motherboard, ASUS DVD Writer and Gigabyte 2.5GB DDR2 RAM. Its 2 years old now.
Can I use something from my old PC??
How much can I expect as resale price for old PC?

Athlon II X3 435 2.9GHz @ 4k
MSI 785GM E51 @ 4.6k(AM3 DDR3)
2GB DDR3 1333MHz Transcend @ 2.5k
Seagate 500GB HDD @ 2.4k

I wud like to replace the proccy suggested by comp@ddict with AMD Athlon II X4 920. The mobo he suggested is gr8, it has ATI chipset inbuilt and will handle all the recent titles in low/med settings. And wud like to change the HDD from Seagate to WD.

After the change in proccy u'll be left with 8k approx. So u can get a graphics card also......At that budget a 9600GT or as suggested by comp@ddict

Krishnendu, u won't be able to plug Phenom II 920 into an AM3 borad because it is a AM2+ socket processor. You can put AM3 processors in AM2/AM2+ board but the reverse is not true because AM3 boards have 938 pin socket where as AM2 processors have 940 pins. the AM3 version of 920 is 925@7.4k.
But if you wanna suggest a Quad core Processor, Athlon II 620 X4 is a far better choice at the budget mentioned.

No, It does not become 6GHz. If you think it does, then please post a link which says so.

External as in? Do you want a portable 2.5" which uses the USB port as a power source or is it the large dumpbag which needs a plug point?

As for the portable one: 500GB Seagate/WD/Verbatim all are around 3.8k-4.2k
As for the dumpbag: 1TB WD My Book Essential is for 5.1k

A small correction: AM3 socket has 939 pins and not 938.
