Default Building new PC - 80k. Please advise.

Hi everyone.

I had planned on building a new computer a few months ago. Back then, I had been advised to wait for a few months while the DX11 cards were released. I used this time to read up on computer hardware a bit more. Ideally, I would have liked to wait for Nvidia's Fermi cards before building, but for certain reasons, I must build now. Going to purchase this in the next week if all goes well.

I have selected the configuration below after careful thought. My budget for a complete build is around Rs. 80,000. By complete, I do mean complete. I will not be reusing ANY parts from my old computer.

Case: Coolermaster HAF 922 - Rs. 6,400
DVD Drive: Samsung 22x SATA SH-203B DVD Writer
- Rs. 1,100
Graphics Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 5850
- Rs. 16,800
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB
- Rs. 2,600
Keyboard: Logitech G15
- Rs. 4,000
Monitor: Dell S2409W
- Rs. 12,500
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2
- Rs. 6,800
Mouse: Logitech MX518
- Rs. 1,500
Processor: Intel Core i5 750
- Rs. 10,200
PSU: Corsair VX550 Watts
- Rs. 5,500
RAM: Corsair 4GB (2x2)DDR3 1600MHz C9 Titanium
- Rs. 5,800
Speakers: Altec Lansing VS2420
- Rs. 1,600
UPS: APC 1000 VA
- Rs. 6,000

*EDIT
*
Mousepad:
Razer Goliathus Omega - Rs 1,000

Total
- Rs. 81,800

A few things:

1) I live in Delhi and will be purchasing all these from Nehru Place. Could you please recommend some good shops to buy from? (with address if possible)

2) As you may know, Delhi gets pretty hot and dusty. Would you advise me to change any components due to this? In summers, my room heats upto 40 degrees C.

3) I will NOT be over clocking at all. So should I purchase extra fans, an aftermarket heatsink, and coolers? Should I buy Arctic Silver thermal paste?

4) I would want someone to assemble the stuff I buy. Should I ask the shop where I got it from to do this for me? I don’t have a Windows installation CD, only a live CD of Ubuntu 9.

5) A few component related queries:

Case: Should I opt for the HAF922 or the CM690? Not going to add anything else except another hard drive later.

Monitor: The Dell S2409 has had good reviews, but is there anything better I can get for upto Rs. 15,000? Only for the monitor am I willing to stretch my budget. Lynx has two Asus monitors at around 15k
http://www.lynx-india.com/index.php?...ry_slug=24-lcd
Are these any better?

RAM: Is the RAM I’ve chosen alright? Not sure about latencies and timings etc.

Motherboard: As I am not going to be overclocking, should I go for the Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 or save around Rs. 1,000 and go for the Intel DP55WB?

Speakers: Don’t know if they’re good or not, I just need a pair of cheap 2.0 speakers.

UPS: Again, I have no idea about this. I know APC makes the best ones, but please give me a particular model number (and one that is cheaper if possible). I only want a few minutes of backup time to quickly save my work and shut down the computer. But it should be able to handle voltage fluctuations easily; the voltage sometimes fluctuates as where I live.

6) Could you guys please check whether all the prices I’ve listed are close to the actual prices? That way I know I’m not getting robbed.

Thanks a lot for reading this. Please feel free to add any thing of help. And sorry for the long post. I’ll add later if anything comes to mind. :-P

I am not one of the experts here, but a couple of things came to my mind:

-With that budget, IMO you should go for the i7 instead of i5. Unless you are planning to upgrade in the near future.

-What types of games do you play? Be sure to buy a good mouse, especially if you are into the FPS/RPG genre. The difference between a Rs 1000 mouse and say, a Razer Death Adder is substantial. You will also need a good mouse pad. Trust me, it will be worth the price and at your budget you should not ignore it. Your wrists will be thanking you too

hi letmein

Dont go for such an expensive cabby.Instead choose cm690,save 2k and go for a 1tb hard drive.

The i5 will do fine but if you are into serious multitasking then go for i7 860@ 4k more as it supports hyperthreading.I recon stick with the i5.

I would suggest you to wait for fermi at your budget but as youre in a hurry the 5850 isnt bad either.

If you dont overclock then dp55wb is great and i,m using one as well.

For speakers go for a 2.1 system atleast for such a config. The vs2421 will suffice.

The rest is fine.

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me about the mousepad. I forgot all about it. Thinking of going for a Razer mouspad:

As for the i7, I don't know if I should go for it. Don't think I need that much of power.

I really wanted to wait for Fermi. Even if they are expensive, atleast they would bring the price of the 5850 down. But I can't wait till Feb. (when it is rumored to be releases)

And I'd rather go for 2.0 speakers. Don't need the subwoofer.

Thanks for your help, both of you.:-P

I am not up to speed with the current Razer mouse pads, but I think you should go for the 'Control' type instead of the 'Speed'.

As for i7, it is your choice, but at your budget it seems like a shame to not get it. But yes, it is not absolutely essential. It also depends on when you plan your next CPU upgrade. The further away it is, the better i7 will be.

i think u should go i7 config with this much budget n wait for CM 690 II n buy it rather than buying d old one...
get a 1TB HDD which u can get it for jus some little more money n if u want ur UPS for jus shutting down purpose then y do u need 1000 VA u can get APC 550 VA for around 3.5k or Numeric Digital 800 VA for 2.5k...

The choice of CPU and MOBO is not good for a 80k budget machine. I am suggesting u a new one.

Processor: Core i7 i920 D0 2.66GHz @ 14.4k
Mobo:
MSI X58 Pro @ 10.8k
RAM: OCZ 6 (2X3) GB DDR3 1600MHz Gold Edition RAM @ (2750x3)=7.25k
HDD: Seagate 1 TB @ 4k
PSU: Corsair TX 650 @ 6.8k
Cabinet: Cooler Master Elite 334 @ 2.2k
Monitor: BenQ 24" G2420 FULL HD LCD Monitor @ 11.3k
Mouse/keyboard: Razer Arctosa @ 2.5k
DVD Writer: LG 1.1k
Grphics card: Sapphire HD5870 1GB GDDR5 @ 25k

Total is around 85k. You can also go for HD 5850 @ 17k.

reason: Performance wise Core i7 920 is better than i5 processors because of its Hyper threading support and tripple channel memory controller.
Ram: a triple channel config in an i7 system will always give u performance boost than dual channel config.
At your budget personally my choice of Gfx card is HD 5870. You can reduce price of other components a little like going for normal keyboard/mouse and cabinet.

@letmein: Instead of spending huge amount of money on mouse,keypad,cabby....u can
save some money & get 5870 instead of 5850.....& core-i5 is gud stick to it.....

@arnab

The i7 860 is a based on lga 1156 whereas the i7 920 is 1366 based. For a budget of 80k i personally like Cilus's config because the op can sli or xfire in future infull 32x mode and even have support for future core i9 based processors which will be supported only by lga 1366 socket but not 1156.

The i7 860 is great but for 80 plus budget its better to stick with lga 1366 and be more future proof.
