Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
Hi guys, I am looking for the best config for gaming for a budget of 28k.
I will be using it for gaming, watching HD movies and other usual stuff...
I already have a monitor and optical drive.
This is what I have already decided on:- - Logitech MX™518 Gaming Mouse @ 1750
- 1 TB Seagat Barracuda 7200.11 @ 4100
- Altec Lansing BXR-1121 2.1 Spkrs @ 1325
- Logitech Multimedia Keyboard @ 500
I am left with Rs. 20,325 and the items still to be decided are:- - CPU
- Motherboard
- RAM
- Graphics Card
- Cabinet
- SMPS
- UPS
I am open to all sort of suggestions...
Thanks a lot in advance

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
* CPU : Athlon II X4 630 : 5.5k or Athlon II X2 240: 3k-3.5k
* Motherboard : Pick a 785G based board from Gigabyte or ASUS. starts at 5k or 780G based board for 4k-4.5k
* RAM : Transcend DDR3 1333MHz 2x2GB or ddr2 800MHz 2x2GB
* Graphics Card : GTS250 or 9600GT
* Cabinet : CM Elite 335 or zebronics cabinet
* SMPS : Corsair VX450
do remember that 780G takes DDR2 and 785G takes DDR3
* UPS

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
If I go for Athlon II X4 630 @ 5.5k, then could someone tell me what MoBo, RAM and GPU would suit my budget the best...
Clearly its trade off between DDR 3 and a better Graphics Card. Which one do I go for?

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
^^ for how long will u use this system ?
i recommend you go4 2 gb ddr3 now and add another stick later ( say a year ).
if u're into gaming , get a radeon 4870 atleast. the x2 240 processor will suffice.
If you dont want to upgrade ur ram in future , get ddr2 and a better gfx card. .settle for nothing less than GTS250.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
So this seems to be the final config: - CPU - Athlon II X2 240 @ 3.2k
- Motherboard - Biostar A785G @ 3.4k
- RAM - 2*2GB Transcend/Kingston DDR2 800MHz @ 2.5k
- Graphics Card - Sapphire HD4770(artic accelero cooling) @ 7.4k
- Cabinet - CM Elite 330 @ 1.8k
- SMPS - Gigabyte 460W Superb @ 2.5k
- 1 TB Seagat Barracuda 7200.11 @ 4100
- Altec Lansing BXR-1121 2.1 Spkrs @ 1325
- Logitech MX™518 Gaming Mouse @ 1750
- Some UPS @ 2k
Lately I have been thinking, if I go for 500 GB instead of 1TB, I will have Rs.1625 extra. I will invest it on better processor. Which would it be?
Also is the MoBo selection right... I could not find any review pages for Biostar A785G. Could someone send me some links.
Is everything alright in this config....

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
That SMPS can easilt handle the GTS 250! Palit GTS 250 512MB @ 7.1k is a much better option if you don't want to OC the GPU. If you do want to OC, then go for 4770. But, at stock GTS 250 wins for performance. Also is cheaper by 300 bucks.
http://en.expreview.com/2009/04/24/f...onster.html/16
Good luck if you get RAM at that price. From what people are telling me 2GB DDR2 RAM has risen in price to about min. 1.8k and upto 2.2k. Best up your budget by a bit and get a DDR3 setup which will last you much longer. I don't like the Biostar board as it does not have 100% solid capacitors. Go for Gigabyte 785G boards with DDR3, should be available for 5.5k.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
So GTS 250 in place of HD 4770 - everybody cool with that.
Cant extend my budget anymore... So I wont go for DDR3.
What bout better processor for 1625 extra...
And any other MoBo recommendation and any links for the recommended MoBo.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
^1625 extra... so either get the Athlon II X4 620 @ 5.5k or get a better mobo like this one:
http://www.lynx-india.com/index.php?ukey=search
Its an older chipset, but supports 4xRAM slots and since you are going for dedicated gfx, this is a solid board for the price.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
I still suggest the HD4770 for the excellent after market cooling and low power consumption....but then again it's ur choice.....
And a word on it's OC performance.it's "AMAZING"...i didnt think that OCing the GPU cud yield soo uch increase in performance...but here's a review for the same..

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
Not everyone wants to OC their GPU, plus that link does not talk about power consumption and temps after OC. There is a gain of 2fps on Crysis Warhead, and large gains on the others. GTS 250 is still the best bet for OP.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
Probably I will go for GTS 250 cos I am neither going to overclock my GPU, nor I am looking for low power consumption... Which brand for GTS 250 within 7.4k???
Can't go for Athlon II X4 620 @ 5.5k, to costly. I can put aside nothing more than 4825 for CPU. Any recommendation within this limit?
I am not sure about the MoBo yet! Any suggestions within 3.4k for AMD processor and DDR 2 support...

^^^ Palit GTS250 512MB GDDR3 @ 7.1k. Phenom II X2 545 @ 4.7k. That mobo is the best at that budget.

Horrible. You seem to want to go to any lengths to advocate ATI GPU's. OP has said that he can't afford to extend his budget to get the Athlon II X4, I suggested it previously if you did not read my posts.
Besides, why don't we sit down and have a chat about your favourite two lines, power consumption and temperatures now? 4850 is a well known frying pan with very high GPU temps. For just 500 bucks more the GTS250 performs much better than the 4850 with better power consumption and temperatures.
GTS250 also supports CUDA, so CPU is not under intensive load when doing many Graphics and video related tasks. PhysX is also supported by GTS250, so if later OP wants to use PhysX, he can retain this card and use it as dedicated PhysX GPU along with a powerful one for gaming.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
^^ make that 7200.12 for the HDD . .some series .10 or .11 is known to have issues.
i dont think u've mentioned the resolution at which you will be gaming. . if its below 1680x1050. ..then u're config is gr8. . but if its 1920x1080 then you should get atleast a 4870 if not a gtx260.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
Have a look at the WD Green or Blue 500GB too. Even Samsung and Hitachi are good companies. Better have a look at whichever is cheaper and get that. All have equal failure rates.
Some UPS... Hmmm... Buy only APC UPS. Don't waste money on any other brand.
@ sagargv His rig is best for his budget.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
sure it is.i just felt that if he is gaming @ full hd , then 4870 + x2 240 may be better for now. .and the cpu can be upgraded in future. I suppose it depends on what else he intends to do on his PC.
In either case , he cant go wrong. Its a fine PC he's buying.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
Hello
I also needed a new desktop and have approx the same budget. I just want to ask if this machine is good for playing current and upcoming games at 1680x1050? I'll need the pc for next two years then i'll either upgrade or buy a new one.
Also can i get better config if i wait for some time- three months max.

His max for processor he said is 4.8k
Now he is spending 7.1k on GPU.
Minus 0.5k and the GPU cost comes to 6.6k for HD4850.
Now use the extra 0.5k and Get the quad core X4 620....????
What THE HELL is wrong in that>>>???????

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
^^ the dual core is better for gaming ? with either cpu's , most games will be more cpu limited , so choose the better gpu.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
At the Transition time from Dx10 to DX11, I don't think spending 7-8k money on a GPU of DirectX 10/10.1 class is good. If the budget is limited then my suggestion is wait for a few days until the price drop for DirectX 11 cards, ATI 57XX series.
The onboard HD 4200 GPU with 128MB DDR3 sideport memory in 785G based Motherboards is enough for watching HD movies and play games in lower resolution.
And quad core CPU is always a better option because it is more future proof solution. Now a days most of the games are not optimized properly for multi-core CPUs but the next gen games will be,probably the DX11 titles.
So my suggestion is go for AMD Athlon X4 620 and wait for few days for the Graphics card.

ATI 4850 is wrong. Recommending a frying pan is wrong. Hypocrisy and double standards are wrong. You sing the tone of better power consumption and temperatures at one time while recommending an underperforming card (on stock), not taking into account that not everybody is as great as yourself and not everybody is comfortable with the idea of overclocking. Then when a better GPU is suggested, then you have a problem with that too.
The dual core will perform much better in gaming today and the OP can't extend his budget and the Gamer spends most on GPU. The nvidia offerings are better at OP's budget and it's better if you stomach that fact.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
have a look to this configuration
Phenom X2 550 BE
Biostar TA790GX a3+
Corsair XMS3 2 GB DDR3
500 GB Seagat Barracuda
CoolerMaster 330 Elite
Zebronics 550 PRO
Till Now It Gets 21k
Rest money invest in gud GFX card, Speakers and KB+Mouse
Biostar TA790GX a3+ have SB750 chipset which has ACC (AMD overdrive support), So Can Unlock the x2 To x4 And overclock Like Hell coz of BE processor.

Re: Gaming Rig for 28k(have monitor already)
My friends & I have had the 7200.11 HDDs and all of us have been affected by the firmware issue with that series. I’d suggest getting the 7200.12 series which is not only faster but doesn’t get bricked like the previous one. Also, +1 for ATI 4770 considering it is DX10.1 support and the GTS250 being a rebranded 9800GTX+ which is again a rebranded 8800GT with the flaws of the previous series. The GTS250 is not based on a new architecture per se. Whereas the 4770 is a new architecture and also has all the advantages previously mentioned.
