Default Motherboard suggestion for AMD X2 250

Hi guys,
I'm looking out to buy a budget PC. I've chosen the X2 250 processor. I need a good motherboard for this. Preferrably under 4K.

It seems there's a 785G chipset mobo from Biostar at 3.5K(Price Lynix-india). Is it good? or shall I look for some other board? Any help would be much appreciated!

Does AM2+ motherboards support my processor?
In the supported CPU list of mobo if the Athlon X2 processor is included, but the socket is not AM3 - what does that mean? Does that mean there are X2 processors out there with AM2+ socket?

Anyway here's some of the shortlisted Models
Biostar A785GE Rs. 3240
Biostar TA785GE 128M Rs. 4156
Asus M4A78-EM Rs. 4725

Try looking for Gigabyte based boards. They have better build quality AFAIK. Biostar boards are pretty good too.

X2 250 is AM3 right? AM3 is backward compatible with the AM2+ socket, but AM2+ CPU is not compatible with AM3 socket.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. But isn't there any other solution from gigabyte or asus at the same price range(4K)?

@Techalomaniac - thanks for the info. SO I guess I can buy the AM2+ socket boards too.

^^^ No, AM2+ socket doesn't support AM3 proccy's. You understood it wrong. And yes, go for Biostar A785GE. Its really a good motherboard.

^Really? I thought they do. I mean u need a BIOS flash, but they do support the AM3 CPU...

Here you go...
Quote:
AMD confirmed that there is an upgrade path from Socket AM2+ to AM3:

* AM3 processors work on AM2+ motherboards due to the presence of both the DDR2 and DDR3 memory controller
* AM2+ processors do not work on AM3 motherboards due to the lack of the DDR3 memory controller

@ emmarbee Biostar boards are good, but please look for Gigabyte 785 boards too. You can buy the Biostar ones as they are pretty good.

dude. it's the other way around.

AM3 processor can fit in AM2+ and AM3 sockets.
AM2+ processor cannot fit in AM3 socket

There are many who are using AM3 processors in AM2+ boards.

Check this link for my AM2+ motherboard processor support list. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...2995#anchor_os
it support all AM3 processors.

now, check this AM3 785G board: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/M...3156#anchor_os

it only supports AM3 processors.

moreover, Biostar A785GE is AM2+ board that also supports AM3 and takes DDR2 RAM. I would pick MSI's entry level AM3 board over this as AM3+DDR3 does give performance boost for AM3 processors.

The best IGP MoBo at the moment is the 785G. Go for it. That’s the best VFM.

^785G is a chipset and not a mobo.
